Doris Lawrence McMillan, a long time Richland resident, passed away November 17th, 2013 in Shoreline, WA after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease.

She was born in Southwick ID on January 13th 1928 to Sarah and Alexander Lawrence. She grew up with her two other sisters on a small farm and shared with others stories of hard work mixed with plenty of good times. After high school graduation Doris and her sister, Lois left the farming life for an education and teaching credentials. Doris first attended Lewis and Clark State College and later graduated from Central Washington College. After graduating from CWC in 1953 she moved to Richland and taught 2nd and 3rd grade at various elementary schools till 1959.

Doris married Verne McMillan in 1955 after being introduced to him on a blind date. They had two children, Cheryl and Steve McMillan.

Doris will always be remembered for her love of learning and education; but most of all her family will remember her lessons in kindness and compassion and will greatly miss her beautiful smile. Doris is survived by her husband Verne McMillan; children Cheryl McMillan Thomas Kohn and Steve McMillan; two sisters, Lois Thompson and Jane Martin and Cousin Barbara Jewette.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 11:00am at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 915 By-Pass Hwy, Richland.
