Fred A. Melling, 74, of Richland, passed away on November 18, 2013, at Kadlec Medical Center. Fred was born September 27, 1939, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Trygve and Adeline Melling. The family moved to Richland in 1943, where Trygve was employed at Hanford.

Fred graduated from Columbia High School in 1957 and married Brenda Sue Neeley in 1958. They had three children, Rick, Victor, and Laura. Fred worked for the City of Richland as Director of Public Works until his retirement in 1987.

Fred was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved fishing on the Washington coast for salmon, and won two salmon derby's fishing for Kings.

Fred was preceded in death by his wife Brenda in 1998, his parents, and his brother Andrew in 1999. He is survived by his sons Rick and wife Vicki, Victor and wife Lisa, daughter Laura and husband Brett, grandchildren Michael, Eric, Amber and husband Nick, Jacob, and Joshua, and one great-grandchild, Brianna. He is also survived by his sister Myrna Steele of Arizona.
