Ethel Louise Bertermann
Ethel Louise Bertermann passed away peacefully on March 11, 2014, surrounded by her family.
The daughter of Rev. Dr. and Mrs. Oliver C. Rupprecht, Ethel was born on June 29, 1945, in Milwaukee, WI. She married Mark Bertermann on November 29, 1969.
Ethel graduated from Concordia University in Chicago, and served as a teacher at Christ Lutheran School in San Pedro, CA. The couple then moved to John Day, OR, where Mark began his pastoral ministry and where their three daughters were born. The family moved to Portland, OR in 1979, where Ethel served as Director of Pre-Adult Education at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church from 1987-2004.
In addition to supporting Mark in his ministry, Ethel was an accomplished homemaker and gardener who passed on to her family a love of beauty, literature, and the music of J.S. Bach. She will be remembered for her faith in Christ Jesus and for the loving wisdom she shared with many.
She is survived by husband Mark; daughter Rena Keseman Brent of West Richland; daughter Kecia of Kigali, Rwanda; and daughter Dana of Portland. Her grandchildren are Katya, Tobiah, and Margaret.
Her siblings include Helen Brodhagen, Carl Rupprecht, Paul Rupprecht, Edith Lehrke, John Rupprecht, and Mildred Brodhagen. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Herbert.

Pastor, how precious were the years and memories together with your beautiful wife, Ethel. She is now well, healed, walking in the Master’s Garden with Jesus! Ethel’s strong faith, her spirit, and her love will remain with you and your family forever and ever. What a gentle soul is now wrapped in the arms of Jesus.
Mark, I was so sorry to read about the passing of your beloved wife, Ethel. May it bring you comfort knowing others are thinking of you during this tender time.
