Doris Mae McCauley
Doris Mae McCauley, age 92, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, April 7, 2014. She was born Doris Mae Boyd on January 26, 1922 in Athens, GA, and was the oldest of three children William Bill and Elisabeth Beth. They were the children of Ely Briton Boyd and Ina Mae Carter Boyd. She was predeceased in death by her parents, brother, sister, and husband.
Glenn and Doris were married March 20, 1943 while he was on active duty stationed in Athens, GA. Upon military discharge in 1947, they moved to Buhl, Idaho where Glenn was employed with the Post Office. Next, he was hired as a fireman with Rockwell at Hanford WA. The family moved to Pasco and then to Richland WA. During the time their three children attended grade school, Doris enrolled and completed beauty school and then became the assistant manager in Rena's Beauty Salon. Both Glenn and Doris were members of South Side United Protestant Church in Richland: Glenn a Sunday Usher and Doris a Sunday School Teacher. After both retired in 1975, they enjoyed traveling and spending leisure time together: Glenn tying fishing flies and Doris caring for her flower garden.
Doris is survived by their three children, daughter Janice Smearman and sons, Ray wife Ann of Los Banos CA and David. She was a grandmother of Kathleen Rehak Smearman, Jan-Michelle Smearman, Darren, Kurt wife Shelly and Collette McCauley, and a great-grandmother to Leischel, Matthew and Skylan Smearman and Tyler, Hailey and Taylor McCauley.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Richland.

Mom, I miss you. You have always been there for me and you have always encouraged me with whatever I wanted to accomplish in life. Whenever I wandered off in the wrong direction, you were there to lead me back with your kind gentle words that only a Mother knows how to say. As the years went by, I was not always there to help you around the house, but the weekly Sunday phone calls were a comfort for me to fill the periods of absence. Mom, you will always be with me in my heart and thoughts as my life continues.
Mom’s passing has left a large hole in the hearts of our family. Dad and mom were the rock and foundation in our lives. We understood that dad was the authority but mom was the advisor. As a quiet and soft spoken person she never said to much but the very clear direction was understood by each of us.
Mom was a true gift from God and I will always be thanful to him that she was my Mother and involved in my life. Her loving daughter.
Janice, Ray, and David, Your parents were wonderful, as all of you are. I especially loved how friendly and welcoming they were to me when I was in their home. Your mother was so pretty and a lady in every way. Her voice was soft, and I loved her southern accent. Janice, being your friend has been so fun. You are a wonderful and hard-working mother as Doris was. I am very proud of you all. God bless you richly always.

I remember so much fun with you when we were children. Your mother worked hard and put up with a lot. I remember tents and twinkies and babydoll pajamas and lots of laughter. You were so fortunate to have your mother for so long. Bless you all!

From the first time I met you and Dad in Nov 1965, I always remembered you as a beautiful and soft-spoken woman and Ray’s special bond with you. Your quiet demeanor, your beautiful face with striking features, and your impeccably-kept hair were the constants whenever I thought about you. Over the years, I always thought of you as the most wonderful mother-in-law gift I could have. But more than that, I always thought of you as my Mother, too. I loved being around you, whether watching TV, doing something together or for you, or having a fun conversation. Every moment was cherished and now they all are memories and guideposts for the rest of my life. Ray and I have been so fortunate to have had you in our lives all these years!
