Louise Lucy Brooks Wakefield
Louise Lucy Brooks Wakefield went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 30, 2014 after enjoying 91 years on this earth. Known to many as "Gran," Louise was born September 17, 1922 just outside of East St. Louis, IL to Carlie W. Brooks and Maggie Elizabeth Harrod Brooks.
The Lord played a large role in Louise's life. She was a children's church leader for so many years that she saw the children and grandchildren of those she taught come through her classes. Louise grew up in Illinois and married Wesley Wakefield when she was 18, a marriage that lasted over 73 years. After World War II, they moved to Tyler, Texas where they lived for over 50 years. Louise worked for National Life and Accident Insurance Company for many years in Tyler as well as Barrow Beauty School and Cox Communications later Sudden Link Communications. At age 85, and in 2008, she & Wes moved to Richland, WA to be nearer to their family.
While their father served in Vietnam and their mother worked fulltime, Louise and her husband, Wes, played a tremendous role in raising their grandchildren. Louise was widely recognized as a faithful prayer warrior, spending long hours in prayer interceding for friends, family and strangers alike and was very active in many family and church activities. She also loved exploring the Pacific NW, especially the mountains.
Louise was preceded in death by her Husband, Wesley, daughter Berneice E. Hasty Wayne, of The Woodlands, TX, son James W Wakefield Judy of Longview, TX, grandson David W. Hasty of San Antonio, TX, and 4 siblings 1 brother and 3 sisters. She is survived by her brother, Bill Brooks of Cole Camp, MO, and grandsons Brad Hasty Tracy of Richland, WA, Mark Hasty Kim of Richland, WA and Weston Wakefield Erica of Irving, TX. She had several great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Louise had many, many "adopted" grandchildren people that thought of her as their grandmother – especially Renea Caldwell of Tyler, TX, whom she thought of as a daughter. She will be missed by each and every one of them.
A celebration of life will be held at Wynwood Senior Living in Richland Washington. Instead of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Lower Valley Hospice, 3920 Outlook Road, Sunnyside, WA 98444.
What a great reunion in heaven on April 30th!
My prayers are with the family. Mark & Brad they were so proud of you. I have much respect for the way you cared for them during their final years here on earth. They have gone home to their reward that they have waited for so many years. I and my family treasure our time knowing and spending with them. I will always treasure those last few days that I was able to talk with your Gran while she was in rehab. Stay close to the Lord. We will all be seeing them soon. Much Love, Carolyn
Her heavenly smile will shine the brightest! Love to you all, Deborah Dopson, Renea’s sister
