Cheryl Lee Coughren, 64, of Richland passed away May 2, 2014, at her home. Born February 12, 1950, in Hammond, IN, to Donald Sr. and Margaret Lindsey Downs, raised in OH and loved spending summers with her Grandma Lindsey.
Growing up, she was active in 4H Clubs, and in bowling leagues, where she met her future husband, Del Herron. One of her favorite high school jobs was being a carhop. After high school Cheryl and Del married, and had their two children. One of her proudest moments was watching her daughters Angela and Melissa attend WSU, and Melissa's graduation. Cheryl, herself, was very proud to graduate from Trend College, and, later, receive her AA, at the age of 57, from CBC, the same time as her daughter Melissa. She also enjoyed volunteering at community events and camping with her family. After retiring, as Administrative Assistant at Battelle, she was able to do what she loved: traveling, music, photography and spending time with her grandkids. She was also able to accomplish some of her more important Bucket List items, including: going on a cruise to the Bahamas last October, and vacationing, individually, with each grandchild last summer.
Cheryl is survived by her daughters, Angela Herron and Melissa Herron-Ginn; grandsons, Braxton Morrow and Maddox Delgado; and granddaughter, Montana Herron-Ginn, whom all live in Richland, WA; stepdaughters, Tina Green, of Amarillo, TX, and Kathy Bogs, of Tomball, TX, plus their children and grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Dolores Riggins, of Spring Valley, CA; her friend, and father of her children, Del Herron, plus many nieces, nephews and other friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter and name sake, Christian Lee Herron; husband, Marvin Lee Coughren; sister, Peggie Downs; brother, Donald Jr.; and son-in-law, Steve Ginn.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, May 12, 2014, at 5:00 P.M. at Einan's at Sunset in Richland. Her inurnment will be held at Sunset Gardens.
Donations may be sent to The Hospice at the Chaplaincy, 1480 Fowler Street, Richland, WA 99352.
Cheryl and I worked together at PNNL for many years and I always enjoyed her charmin smile and the obvious pride that she took in doing her work well. We will miss her.

Aunt Cheryl was my second mother. She had a heart of gold. Nothing that she wouldn’t do for anyone. She gave up a cherished home n time she could have spent with her own children/ grandchildren in order to come back to Indiana so she could take care of her beloved sister Peggy Downs until her last days with us. She now has no more pain/ suffering of her own n has joined All the Angels above that have been awaiting her at Our wonderful Gates of Heaven . She will be greatly missed by many but never forgotten . We will meet again when its our time to cross thru those beautiful Gates of Heaven .

I remember all the memories grandma and I shared, all the words of wisdom she shared with me to believe in myself and telling me I could accomplish anything I set my mind to. I love you grandma you were so amazing and always knew the right thing to say. I miss you.
Our thoughts & prayers are going out to all of Cheryl’s family & friends. She was our neighbor and the nicest and sweetest lady you could ever meet. She will be missed dearly.

I am so very sorry to hear about your mothers passing. I am praying for you and your family during this time a grief.

I met Cheryl at Tri-Cities Hospice when both of our husbands had passed away in 2001. We bonded with nine others who had lost their spouses and we shared dinners every week on Wednesday for almost three years. I always enjoyed Cheryl’s stories of her family and her girls and they mean’t the world to her. God bless you Cheryl, as I will miss you, but never forget you! My condolences to your family!
