Emily Jane Chisholm Ballard

Jane was born in Bells Tennessee to James and Elizabeth Chisholm on June 4, 1944. She spent much of her early childhood in Bells with her grandmother and her Uncle JT, who was about her same age. When her father, James left the Army the family moved to Memphis where Jane attended grammar school and high school.

In 1963 Jane, after recently joining the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, wanted to attend Brigham Young University BYU in Provo Utah. It was in Provo that she met her future husband Val Ballard. Following her first year of school at BYU she and Val were married on August 22, 1964. Their marriage was solemnized August 31, 1964 in the Salt Lake Temple. Jane worked the next 3 years helping to put Val through College. In 1967 Val graduated and entered the Air Force and Jane followed him around the World for the next 11 years. During this time the couple adopted their daughter Lisa and while they were stationed in the Azores they adopted their son Richard. After returning to the USA and after much struggling she was finally able to get pregnant and their son Charles Adam was born April 7, 1976.

When the family left the Air Force in 1979 they moved to Hermiston, OR. In Hermiston Jane worked as an executive secretary and a medical transcriptionist. In 1990 Jane became ill and was forced to medically retire. Although her health continued to decline Jane became an accomplished quilter and seamstress. She decorated her home with many of the quilts that she made over the years. In 1996 Jane and her family moved to Richland to be closer to Val's work at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Jane's health continued a slow decline. In 2010 she was no longer able to walk and then in 2012 she was confined to her bed. Jane died peacefully on June 8th. She is survived by her husband of 50 years Val, and her three children Richard and his wife Dawn of Richland, Washington, Lisa and husband Chris of Plymouth, New Hampshire, Charles Adam and his wife Teah of Spring Creek, Nevada and 11 grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00P.M. on Friday, June 13, at the Richland Stake Center on Thayer Ave. Viewing will be held in the Relief Society Room at one hour prior. Interment will be in a family plot at the Oak Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Corvallis, Oregon.
