Ellen Minchey Pulsipher
After 100 remarkable years on earth, Ellen passed away peacefully on July 28, 2014 in her home of 70 years. Ellen was born on November 27, 1913 in Jackson County, Tennessee to George Staley Minchey and Iola Lee Minchey. She helped raise several of her siblings on the family farm and enjoyed the simple but hard life in rural Tennessee. On June 5, 1943 she married Aaron E. Pulsipher and in 1944 they moved to Richland, WA during the start-up of Hanford. She always sought to better herself and became a cosmetologist, serving throughout the Tri-cities and developing lasting friendships. Ellen always had a special place in her heart for all the neighborhood children giving them a safe and loving second home to come to. Ellen faithfully served her family, taking many of them into her home while they were sick or bedridden. She nursed them for many years prior to their passing including her dear husband. Ellen was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was sealed for eternity to Aaron in the Temple. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and husband. Ellen is survived by numerous friends and family members who will forever miss her.
Funeral services will be held at Einan's funeral home 915 By-pass highway, Richland, WA at 3:00pm on Saturday August 2nd, preceded by a viewing at 2:00pm. Burial will follow immediately after the services at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
I never had the privilege to meet my Great-Aunt in person, but she is part of my memories all the way back to when I was a little girl. Her letters found my mother wherever we had moved! I believe, from hearing Mom tell it, that Ellen was the one person providing love in a not-so-loving existence, and I have always thought the world of her for that fact alone. I still look forward to meeting her one day, because I’m sure she will meet us all surrounded by the family & friends that she loved. Life well lived, Aunt Ellen!
When I first learned that she died, the first thing in my mind was that I hoped there was someone there who REALLY knew my Aunt. After reading her obituary, I know there was, someone who knew her and loved her. So much distance has kept us from seeing each other since after the birth of my son in 1950, but we wrote constantly, until our handwriting failed us in our old age, then we called instead. Only 13 yrs older than me, Ellen was still my strength when I was a young girl, treating me like I had worth that I didn’t feel I had sometimes, then she was who I turned to when I became a wife and mother for advice or just to hear a caring voice on the other end of the line. I wish I had been able to make that trip last fall, but I am grateful that we kept in touch all the same. She guided me through to the ripe old age of 87, I guess I’ll take it from here. 100 yrs just didn’t seem long enough for a woman like her. I will miss her deeply.

My heart was saddened when I heard of your passing this morning; however, it quickly changed to joy as I realized you are now with all the family and friends that departed before you. You were the last of your family after you took care of all of them prior to their passing. You helped so many in this life and we will be eternally grateful to you. I am so happy I had the opportunity to spend time with you and enjoy your home and cooking. You are a wonderful Daughter of God and you are now with Him. Thank you for all you did for me. You always treated me like your son. I love you and will be happy to see you again in the next life. All my love — Darrell
Ellen was a most caring, kind person. I saw firsthand the many things she did to assist others, including her husband Aaron, her mother and her brother and many others. I so much enjoyed my visits with Ellen and Aaron over many years. She had such special feelings for the ‘B’ House she lived in and all the memories since 1944. She was determined to stay in the home until she passed on. For the first time since 1944 a Pulsipher will not live on the 1400 block of Kimball in Richland, WA.
I shall always be thankful for the friendship I had with Ellen & Aaron.

I did not know that Ellen had passed. In 1966 I worked at Crescent Drug with her. She was the one who got me the job there. She was a remarkable woman and I have never forgotten her. Had a ball working with her.
Ellen was a wonderful person to visit and she will be missed. She enjoyed her home and had many memories there. God’s Blessings.
