Cherylyn Kelser

Cherylyn Kelser was born on March 3, 1955 in Fargo, North Dakota to Alan and Sharon Ostby, and passed away on Aug.17, 2014 at Kadlec Regional Medical Center. Cheryl was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at an early age. She passed away from complications due to end-stage renal disease, which was diagnosed in 2010.

Cheryl was predeceased by her father Alan and her brother Paul. Survivors include Cheryl's mother Sharon, stepfather Paul, sister Gail, brother David, and nieces Junelle and Kristin.

Cheryl spent the first few years of her life in Seattle, WA. The family then moved to Burnsville, MN, where Cheryl attended school and ultimately graduated from high school. After high school, Cheryl moved back to her beloved Seattle. She eventually met and married Buddy Kelser. They then moved to Richland, WA for her husband's job. After moving to Richland, Cheryl attended Columbia Basin College. After graduating from CBC, she attended Washington State University in the Mechanical Engineering program. After graduating from WSU, she held jobs in the engineering field. Cheryl's love of math steered her toward her career at CBC, where she taught math and ran the Math Tutoring Center. Many engineers and teachers now enjoy careers who benefitted from Cheryl's math tutoring. Cheryl retired from CBC in 2010 after she was diagnosed with end-stage renal disease.

Cheryl enjoyed a wide range of hobbies from gardening, art, and reading to playing piano, guitar, and violin.

For many years, Cheryl and her husband were blessed to be able to travel to Europe each year. They took vacations in Ireland, Germany, The Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, and a wonderful driving trip down California's Pacific Coast Highway, retracing the route Buddy took in 1968 with his best friend, Bill, on motorcycles.

Many thanks go to Cheryl's nephrology doctors, Dr. Vassa and Dr. Arif, for their kind care throughout her years of dialysis. And many thanks for the wonderful care she received from the dialysis nurses at Fresenius Medical Care. And heartfelt thanks to the Kadlec nursing staff and doctors for the expert, compassionate care Cheryl received during her many hospitalizations.

At Cheryl's request, there will be no memorial or funeral service. If you wish, please make donations to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund www.jdrf.org or the Benton Franklin Humane Society www.bfhs.com.
