Daniel George Sevcik

Daniel George Sevcik was born on November 14, 1940 and passed away on August 11, 2014 in Kennewick, Washington where he had lived for the past 12 years. Dan was born in St. Paul, Nebraska to George and Evelyn Sevcik who raised him and his siblings in Nebraska, Iowa and Kansas often living on farms with his family where he learned his love of gardening. Dan attended and graduated from Maur Hill Prep School in Atchison, Kansas in 1959. He later attended St. Benedict's College in Atchison, Kansas where he worked on a degree in mathematics and later completed a technical certificate in drafting. Dan began his career in manufactured housing in Kansas City, Missouri where he met his lifelong friend Richard "Dick" Drury. He later worked in Boise, Idaho and Olympia, Washington. He began his final career as a building inspector for the State of Washington and retired in 2002 after 15 years of service. Dan's drafting skills were evident in all aspects of his life from designing his garden's to working on his home projects.

Dan's love of fishing continued throughout his life. He tied his own flies and enjoyed many days fishing with friends on his jet boat or hiring a guide. He loved fishing for shad, steelhead, walleye and salmon in Washington, has been combat fishing in Alaska with his daughter Laura as well as many other trips on rivers and lakes in the Northwest.

Dan took great pride in his children from his first marriage, Laura Renicker and husband Rick of Williston, ND, Anne Sevcik of West, TX, Paul Sevcik of Fort Collins, CO, Julie Ruby and husband Jim of Meridian, ID. He was blessed with five grandchildren who he loved to introduce to gardening and fishing, Victoria Dietz and husband Shane, Mitchell Plough, Amanda Renicker, Kyle and Maliea Ruby.

Dan was blessed to meet the love of his life and best friend, Rita in 1988 and they were married on September 23, 1989. Dan and Rita were preparing to celebrate 25 years of marriage. He was planning a surprise trip for Rita to celebrate this milestone. His ability to plan short weekend trips to longer vacations for his family are memories that will always be treasured.

Dan is survived by his wife Rita, his children and grandchildren, sister Rosemary Laverentz and husband Richard, and brother Thomas Sevcik. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Evelyn.

Services will be held at Parish of the Holy Spirit in Kennewick, WA on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers please donate to your favorite charity.

  • Farewell to my loving husband Dan. I miss the man I nicknamed my Mr. Wonderful. I’ve loved being your wife and step-mother to you 4 wonderful children. The things I appreciated most about you:

your kindness and thoughtfulness to me and to others; your relationship with God and church was important to you, as was your relationship with your children; you were a superb entertainer, always doing something a notch above; you were generous with time and resources; you could be wonderfully spontaneous and romantic; you loved to plan surprises and trips; you were a great cook; you were always dependable and there for me when I needed you most; you were thoughtful and generous with my friends & family and generous in allowing me to spend time with them; you wanted me to be happy.

When I see you again, we will enjoy the peace of being with the Lord. All my love forever. I will think of you especially when we would have celebrated our 25th anniversary later this month.
