From Benton City, WA | Born in Titusville, PA

Joan Fay Knight Hamilton

Was born on December 9th, 1946 in Titusville, Pennsylvania to Earl Knight and Fredrel Morris Knight. They later moved to Palmdale, California where she met the love of her life Harold Hamilton whom she married in a double wedding with her sister Linda. Joan and Harold were married for 51 years and had 8 children together, along with 23 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. To say that she was a beloved wife and mother is an understatement to anyone that knew her, to say that she was amazing would be more accurate. She worked with kids for years at Acton School and was affectionately known as Gramalton by her adoring fans. Later when she resigned, the school gave her a special assembly and named it officially Joan Hamilton Day. Joan then went on to open the very first after school Latch Key Kids Program of any kind. She was dedicated and loved all the kids that she ever encountered. Her family and anyone that ever met Joan will miss an amazing woman with a can do attitude who only stood 5 feet tall on a good day.

Joan passed away at her home in Richland, Washington surrounded by her family that loved her. The hole that she left in her family will only be consoled by the memories she left with them. She will be missed. Joan died the way that she lived, loved by all that knew her.

  • So many things that I could say and so many memories that I could share with you. Space is limited so I will just say that Joan was a happy go-lucky little girl that was well loved by her family. She grew up to be a wonderful woman that was loved by all who knew her. She loved her husband and children more than life it’s self. She will be missed by all and I am proud that she was and still is my sissy.

  • Joan was one of the best-hearted people I have ever known. She was a bridesmaid at my wedding and babysat our daughter. Even though she didn’t have a formal teaching credential, she was a wonderful teacher and influenced many young people. I am so sorry to hear of her passing. Donna Carson

  • I spent so much time with the Hamiltons that by the end of Jr. High I was calling her “Mom”. Who knows, by then she may have thought I WAS one of hers. In my heart, I always will be.

    Goodbye Mom.
