Cloyde Ray Hardman

8/14/1933 – 11/21/2014 

Our father and Papa, Cloyde Hardman, passed away in the presence of family on November 21^st, 2014, at Kadlec Hospital. He died from natural causes and a broken heart which he had been suffering since the death of his beloved wife, and our mother, Patti on June 25^th, 2008.

Cloyde was born a twin on August 14, 1933 to Amy and Don Hardman in Mitchell Nebraska and was the 6^th of 9 children. 

He grew up in Kalama, Washington where he shared a special bond with his twin sister Colleen. Always the athlete, he played school football, basketball and baseball. It was during high school that he met his soul mate Patricia Ann Chaffins-Anderson on a blind date and they were later married June 27^th, 1953. 

Cloyde served in the U.S. Army from March 1953 to February 1956.The majority of the time he was stationed in England and was a veteran of the Korean War. Following his discharge he enrolled in college courses and earned a Masters of Education degree from Eastern Washington State College. Cloyde and Patti moved their young family to Richland, Washington the summer of 1963 where Cloyde began his career teaching Special Education for 31 years.

 Dad was a good, generous and simple Christian man with a keen sense of humor who had become an avid reader in his later years when his health kept him from his gardening and other physical things he once enjoyed. His grandchildren fondly remember him for his common “Well kiss my wrist!” response to their conversations, stories and comments.

Surviving him are his children and their spouses; Gayla and Terry Davis, Scott and Debbie Hardman, Jim and Julie Hardman, grandchildren Mitch (Jordan) Davis, Trisha (Isaac) Sherrer, Jeff (Jana), Matt, Megan and Ashlyn Hardman, precious great-grandchildren Evelyn, Ryan and Grace Davis, and Olive and Harmon Sherrer, brother and sister in-law Jim and Shirley Chaffins, brothers in-law Roy Barnes and David Johnson, sister in-law Feddy Hardman, and his dog Oscar, as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

 Cloyde was preceded in death by his parents, eight siblings and his wife of nearly 55 years, Patti.

  Special thanks is given to his granddaughter Megan for being his guardian angel for the past few years of his fragile life

Graveside service will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens on Saturday November, 29^th at 1:00 PM followed by a memorial service at Richland Lutheran Church, where Cloyde was a member for 51 years, at 2:00 PM.
