Jay Russell Sumsion  

August 8, 1930 – December 27, 2014

  Jay Russell Sumsion was born August 8, 1930 in Springville, Utah. He was the eighth of eleven children born to Ernest Elvin Sumsion and Edna Bell Anthon.

  As a junior in high school in 1948 he joined the National Guard and stayed with it until he retired after 33 years of service.  Jay moved to Richland, Washington to take a job at Hanford Nuclear project in 1954.  He started as a nuclear process operator and remained in that position until he retired in 1996.

Jay and his wife Sidney Seaman were married in 1954 in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Jay loved his family, served in scouting as a cub master for over 33 years and was honored with scouting’s Silver Beaver award.

  Jay is preceded in death by his wife, Sidney; daughter, Barbara along with all of his siblings except, his brother, Keith.  He is survived by his children: Jay E. (Alice) Sumsion of Spanish Fork, Utah, Dale (Ilene) Sumsion of Richland, Washington, Michael (Nancy) Sumsion of Richland, Washington, Carl (Rosalie) Sumsion of St. Helens, Oregon and Diane (Michael) Foster of Richland, Washington; 13 grandchildren as well as many great-grandchildren.

  A Funeral Service will take place Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Thayer Stake Center; 1720 Thayer Dr, Richland, WA, with a public viewing from 1-1:45 pm prior to service. Graveside Service will take place immediately following Funeral at Sunset Gardens; 915 By-Pass Hwy, Richland, WA.
