Gerald “Jerry” Brennan Sheeley, 89, passed away peacefully at home February 24, 2015.
Son of Leslie and
Mary Sheeley he was born August 6, 1925, in Yakima, WA and attended
schools there. The family moved from their Yakima farm to Richland
in 1945. He married Patricia “Pat” Glenn and they raised their two
children Chuck and Mary in West Richland.
In the early days of Richland he had been a taxi driver, worked in the Hanford Area and was a Richland mail carrier for several years.
Jerry was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed snowmobiling in the Blue Mountains.
After retirement he travelled extensively throughout the United States gathering genealogy information on his father's side of the family. At age 83 he visited Ireland, his mother's homeland, and was very proud of the fact that he was able to kiss the Blarney Stone while there.
He was predeceased by his wife, Pat; his parents; his brother, John and sisters: Josephine, Marie and Leona. He is survived by his sister, Rita Hayes of Kirkland, WA; son, Chuck (Janell); grandchildren: Nick and Kate Sheeley; daughter, Mary (Todd) Olsen; beloved nieces and nephews: Dick Bryant, Dave Bryant, Kathy Parson, Linda Ledbetter, Teresa Hansen, Patty Johnston, John Hayes, Robert Olsen, Jo Collins, Gordon Glenn, Denise Moore, Diana Howard and Martha Morris; his brother-in-law, Jim (Elaine) Glenn; his loving companion of many years,Betty Phillips and countless dear friends.
Jerry's zest for life, quick wit, jovial manner and kindness will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Viewing will be Saturday March 7, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Einan’s at Sunset Chapel; 915 By Pass Hwy, Richland, WA.
Graveside Service will be Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 4:30 p.m. in The Garden of Peace at Sunset Gardens, Richland, WA.
I am so sad to run across this. Mr. Sheeley was our mailman when I was a young kid in the 60’s living on Cottonwood. We would run from house to house talking to him while he delivered the mail and we probably irritated him. 🙂 He was always extremely nice to us and he always talked to us and had a smile on his face. We are not talking just an average smile, but a big happy smile and I can see it in my mind as I write. I have thought of him so many times when thinking back to my childhood. What a huge loss for his family. You have my deepest sympathies. May he rest in peace.
I am sorry to learn of the loss of Mr. Sheeley. In this kind of situation each one in the family handles it differently.
