From Pasco, Washington | Born in Conemaugh, Pennsylvania

Helen Nolan

Nolan, Helen (nee Jubera) 97 years old, passed away peacefully at Lourdes Hospital, Pasco, WA on April 6, 2015.  Helen was born on November 1, 1917 in Conemaugh, Pennsylvania to Vasil and Mary Jubera, the 5th child in a family of nine. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Norman Nolan, a son, Jeffery and several brothers and sisters.

Helen lived in many states, including Pennsylvania, Illinois, Indiana, and Minnesota before moving to Pasco in 2008.  During the Second World War years, Helen worked in Joliet Illinois at the Joliet Army Ammunition Plant, which opened in 1940. This plant was combined with the Elwood Ordnance Plant and the Kankakee Ordnance Plant, making a facility which could produce weapons such as the Howitzers.  Years later she worked at Simmons Mattress in Indiana, and also the Pullman Company in Indiana.  Helen was a member of Christ the King Church in Richland, and prior to that was of the Eastern Rite, Byzantine Catholic Church, in Illinois.

Among her hobbies, her interests were bowling, snowmobiling and dancing.  Helen loved to bake, and sew quilts which were contributed to Project Linus, and also was quite accomplished in art, and loved sketching. She remained in her home in Pasco doing things all for herself until the day before her hospitalization, which lasted a brief 4 days.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Markus) Stauffer of Pasco and Michael (Erin) Nolan of New York. Additionally, two sisters: Theresa Woods of Richland and Sue Kielian of Chicago, Illinois remain.  Helen had one grandchild, Eric of Pasco, who is now studying at the University of Idaho; and numerous nieces and nephews, most of whom live in the area in and around Chicago, as well as in other parts of the country.

A Memorial Service was held at Einan's at Sunset on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 11 AM with Father Thomas Champoux of Christ the King Church officiating.

Anyone wishing to make donations in Helen's name may do so to their favorite charity.

It is requested that no flowers be sent.

  • Please accept my sympathy on Aunt Helen’s passing. But how can we be really sad knowing that she was so blessed to have lived such a long, full and active life. My Dad (her brother, John) died when I was only 12 but I do have memories of visits to her house “all the way out in Munster” to play with Pat, Mike and Jeff…to me as a child, Munster was a far away place! I also have a lovely note that she wrote to me when my husband passed away several years ago. It is a difficult adjustment no matter what the circumstances are when the clock of one’s days stops…cherishing the memories you all have will certainly help you get through this period.

  • Dear Pat, Markus, Eric and Aunt Terry,
There are never enough years to prepare us for the loss of a loved one. The void that is left, is wrenching. Hopefully, the happy memories that you all created together will ease the sorrow and sustain you in times ahead.
Aunt Helen was a kind, caring person. It pains me that I didn’t visit with her more often, even if only by phone. She made a point of telling me how close Pat and I were when we were very small, and about the bond that she shared with my mother. I will cherish the pictures, letters and memories that I have of her.
May God bless you all during this very sad time, and give you strength for the future. Love, JoAnne

  • I want to express my deepest sympathy and let you know that my thoughts are with you. I am pleased that I was able to visit with Aunt Helen recently in Pasco. Getting to chat with her, Aunt Terry and Cousin Pat was a wonderful experience. Our memories of Aunt Helen will give us all peace and comfort.

  • What I remember of Aunt Helen is her snowmobiling in Minnesota and love of nature. I will keep with me her zealous spirit. It seemed age did not matter, she just kept going and doing. I admire that and it will be something I strive for as I get older so I guess she is inspiring as well! Her sister, Mary Burbich, was my grandmother. Strong will and longevity, we are blessed with and I am grateful. Aunt Helen (+ grandma) thank you for being so strong. Condolences to the family and Celebrate a long great life! Blessed Repose and Eternal Memory.

  • My Aunt Helen enjoyed the outdoors. Once when my father (her brother Chuck) and I visited her at her home north of Two Harbors, MN, we watched a mother bear and her cub in the yard. She and Uncle Norm enjoyed fishing and snowmobiling in the Northwoods as well. She lived a long and independent life.
My sympathy and condolences to my Aunt Terry, cousin Pat, Markus and Eric.
Aunt Helen lives on in our fond memories of her.

  • I would like to say that Mrs. Nolan was a very good and inspirational woman to me. She was like the grandmother I never had in showing up to my graduation events and attending many of my high school events. I will keep her in my prayers, though I am sure she is basking in the light of God after living such a beautiful life. May she rest in peace and may we all look forward to the day when she welcomes us to her new home. God Bless Mrs. Nolan!

It has been only a couple of days since I heard the news about
Mrs. Helen Nolan and it has been a couple of years since we
were all together with the rest of her family in Tricities. Mrs.Nolan was blessed with a long and healthy life and had a solid footing on time, She rolled right along with the years and made it all look so easy. She remains an inspiration to me and I hope that I am able to follow in her steps when is comes to accepting all that life has to offer each and everyone of us. To all her Family including Pat and Markus and Mrs. Theresa Wood as well as her grandson Eric I wish them my deepest sympathies. Lets take a few moments to reflect and to renew our approach to the gifts that we have been given which includes having known Mrs. Helen Nolan.

  • Pat, Marcus, Eric and Theresa:
My family, including my mom, Sue, wish to express our sincere condolences for the loss of this beautiful soul, Helen. I have fond memories of Aunt Helen, Uncle Norm, Pat, Mike and Jeff from my youth. Aunt Helen was so genuine and natural that when she came to the Joliet area with Theresa some years ago to visit, we picked up right where we had left off, as though only a week had gone by instead of the many years that it had actually been. I know my mother loved her sister very much. May Helen rest in peace.

  • We enjoyed meeting and getting to know Helen over the last few years. She had a ready smile, a million stories, and a somewhat mischievous wit. Always pleasant, and remarkably patient in dealing with the inconveniences of advancing age, something we have begun to appreciate recently. We will consider her a model for what we would like to be ourselves, and will be satisfied if we can do half as well. Her passing has brought sorrow to her family, but they can be consoled by her accomplishments, qualities, longevity, and the ease of her passing once the time arrived.

  • Helen was capable, kind, and an inspiration to me. I am so glad that she moved to Pasco and was able to spend her last years close to her daughter Pat, Markus, and her grandson Eric. And, it was a comfort to me that my Mom, Terry, was able to spend lots of time with her favorite sister. She will be greatly missed and my deepest condolences go out to all of her family and friends. May you rest in peace, Helen.

  • I was very saddened to hear of my Aunt Helen’s passing. I hadn’t really kept in touch with her like I should have, but I always knew she was there in Wa. with Pat & her family and was being very well taken care of. My Aunt Helen lived a long & full life and am very thankful for that.. Longevity is definitely in the Jubera women. I have many good memories of my Aunt Helen. Eternal Memories & Blessed Repose Aunt Helen.

  • My deepest condolences to Pat, Markus, Eric and her sister Terry.
Helen was a special person and I will always remember her dearly. She was a fighter and the fact that I never heard Helen speak a bad word about anything always impressed me. Helen you will be sorely missed and I wish I could have spent more time with you. Heaven now has another angel on it’s side.
