Lee (Lester Lee) Eberhardt who survived multiple cancers for over 15 years, passed away on April 22, 2015, at the age of 91 years.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley, and his son Lester.   His second wife, Kris, and his extended family; children Laurie, Sarah Ellen, Lynn, Bill and Jerry, along with their spouses and a host of grandchildren, and great grandchildren; all continue to love him and the personal memories that he imparted upon each and every one of them.

Lee was a survivor of the Dust Bowl, the Great Depression and World War II.  He became a world reknowned scientist focused on determining impacts of ecological change upon mammal populations.  Being an early pioneer in the science of modern ecology for mammals, Lee imparted a model for current methods of analyzing and predicting growth or decline of many different animal species.  He spent his early career with the Michigan Department of Conservation, and his primary career was with the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland, Washington.  But, as he said when he retired, that he was very willing to continue to work for beer, bread, and travel…which he did for many years and many different agencies and friends until very near his death.

Lee not only analyzed world impacts on animals, he personally loved the outdoors and all it provides to humankind.  He imparted that love to his extended family and they continue to pass that love on to their offspring and friends.  He is sorely missed, but we know that as he said in his last few days he was going to take a walk with Jesus and see those who have passed on before him.  As family we pass our love on to him and may we reflect his heritage in our lives and those lives that will follow us.

A memorial service for Lee will be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at 11:00 AM, in the Kennewick First United Methodist Church (2 S Dayton St, Kennewick, WA).  In lieu of flowers Lee’s family requests you donate to the Nature Conservancy, the American Cancer Society, or a church of your choice.
