Warren Elliott
Warren Dale “Buck” Elliott, 91, of Richland, Washington went
home to be with his Lord on Monday, March 30, 2015. He was born to Perl & Myra Elliott on May
12, 1923 in Glade, Kansas. Warren moved
to Denver as a child where he met and married Lyla J. Brown on May 11,
1947. Warren and Lyla moved to Richland
that same year to work at the Hanford Nuclear reservation where he worked in
Materials Procurement & Control as a Purchasing Expeditor until his
retirement from Battelle in 1988.
Warren served in the United States Army Corp of Engineers during World
War 2 as a Buck Sergeant and was lovingly referred to as “Buck” throughout his
life. He served from 1943 to 1945 in the
European Theatre. He will be buried with
full military honors.
Warren is survived by his wife of nearly 68 years, Lyla J. Elliott of Richland,
WA, his daughter Debbie (Steve) Deason of Campbell, CA, son Doug (Liz) of Kirkland,
WA and son Brian (Sandy) of Salem, OR.
Grandchildren, in age order, Amy
Iniguez, Leon Iniguez, Chelsey Elliott, Cameron Elliott (Melissa), Devin
Funkenbusch (Justin), Jake Elliott, Matt Elliott, Brianna Elliott and two great
granddaughters, Kyrie Carr and Molly Elliott. Warren is preceded in death by both of his
parents, older siblings Kyle, Ruby, Bernice Merle and Cleo, numerous nephews
and nieces and one infant son.
Warren was known and loved by the members of First Baptist Church of Richland where he and Lyla have been members since June of 1962. He was a quiet, hardworking handy man who loved his family in his own special way, loved a good joke and graciously served many who needed things fixed or figured out. He loved tinkering in his garage, taking care of his home and yard, working crossword puzzles, visits from family and Lyla’s cookies. He was loved dearly by his family and will be missed greatly. Warren will be interred at Resthaven Cemetery at a graveside service on Saturday, April 4 at Noon. There will be a public viewing at First Baptist Church of Richland 1107 Wright Ave Richland, WA 99354 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Friday, April 3. Lyla – I am so sorry for your loss but I am also smiling thinking of Mr. Elliott dancing with Jesus…..no more sorrow, no more pain……Love and hugs to you.
Brian….my father passed away around this time of the year, 16 years ago. Losing a love one who has been close and dear to you is very sad. He is with our Heavenly Father who said …it was his time to come home. We know that the Christian believer looks forward to meeting His Savior. Proverbs 3:5-6… was the verse that encouraged me..because God has a plan for each one of us. Praying that your Dad we’ll meet our creator, and welcomes him to the many mansions he’s told us about. Praying for your mom, you, and your family.
Dad was the most down to earth person I will ever know and I will be forever grateful for our long talks and the sound advice he would provide in raising children.
My fondest memory of him was when he and Mom came to Dallas for a visit when the kids were little. He spent hours sitting with Chelsey while she made him make believe tea and cookies with her little tea set and the two of them would giggle when Dad would hide the cookies. Jake and he would play with his mini basketball set and Dad would swing Jake around the room when Jake would say… again Grandpa…again! Dad was a gentle and warm soul and he would do anything for his grand children and family.
Dad will remain in my heart forever and I feel blessed to have had his love and kindness.
I first attended First Baptist Church as a small boy and was a fixture with many of the young people there. I well remember Debbie and her brothers on various outings for the young peoples group, and we were always welcome at the Elliot’s home. Later, I had the opportunity to work with “Buck” as others called him, (I never could get past the Mr. Elliott) at Battelle. He was pleasant and did his job very well.
Although we do not attend FBC any longer, he will always be a gentle soul that framed my younger years. We, as Christians, know he is resting now and we will all be reunited in His glory.
