Jacob “Jake” Mulkey was called home to the beautiful ski slopes of this afterlife on July 17, 2015. Jake came bouncing into this world on April 2, 1990 in Richland, Washington to Scott and Phyllis Mulkey. He was an adorable baby, always smiling and getting into the best of little boy trouble.

Early on Jake developed a true love of the outdoors and all the wonders it had to offer, spending time pursuing his passion for fishing, hunting, camping, hiking and skiing. He particularly enjoyed his time spent on the Oregon coast where he went crabbing and fished for tuna and halibut, activities that he enjoyed until his last days. 

Jake was surrounded by three sisters who assisted him in various high jinx during his life and while they tended to squabble, they loved each other very much and had running inside jokes that would fill a book or two.  Jake attended Hanford High School, where he was known for his huge Falcon Pride. At 6’4 his larger than life personality and even longer legs were a sight to behold when running track and his laughter could be heard everywhere. 

After high school, Jake discovered his passion for the culinary world and while always having a hearty appetite, he also embraced the creative side of all those tasty meals. Combining his love of the outdoors, skiing and cooking he jumped at the opportunity to move to Vail Colorado and enjoy all three.  At the time of his passing Jake was the sous chef at the Timber Hearth Grille at the Troon Golf Club at Cordillera in Edwards, Colorado.

In the off season, he traveled the country with new and old friends, visiting family and experiencing life.  Jake was deeply loved by his family and hundreds of friends and relatives. Jake never knew a stranger and if you didn’t know Jake and your paths crossed, chances were that you would part with a friend for life. He would give you the shirt of his back or the last dollar he had; always concerned with what others needed.  Jake lived his life his way and by the credo “Live Free or Die”, a true gentle giant who’s bright star will shine down upon us forever more. Jacob, you will be missed by so many.

Jake is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Jack Mulkey; and his maternal grandparents: George and Maxine Gray. He is survived by his father, Scott (Lise) Mulkey; mother, Phyllis (Darrell Fujiyoshi) Gray Mulkey; sisters: Melissa (Daniel) Long, Sarah (Justin) Cassidy and Rachel Fujiyoshi; grandmother, Beverly Mulkey; nephew, Hayden Long; niece, India Long; uncles: George Gray, Andy (Sharon) Mulkey, Gary (Karen) Mulkey; aunt, Marilyn (Ed) Boehmer; and cousins: Chris, Gavin, Hank and Trey.

A viewing will take place Sunday, August 2, 2015 from 12:00 – 2:00pm at Events at Sunset; 915 By Pass Hwy, Richland, WA 99352. A Memorial Service for Jake will take place the same day following viewing at Events at Sunset.
