Hettie Jones

Hettie S. Jones, born August 22, 1953, passed away August 26, 2015.  From birth through High School, Hettie called Mackay, ID home.  Then it was off to college at the University of Idaho where she met Brian, fell in love, and eloped in the middle of a snow storm.  College was magical for Hettie.  Great friends, winter sledding on the U of I golf course and actually living to tell stories about it.  Then it was off with husband Brian to see the rest of the country as we became a Navy family and were transferred from one port to the next.  Every place we were stationed Hettie found a way to make where we were at a home, even the long stay at the Holiday Inn in Brunswick, ME with a baby less than a year old, and a dog who would have given her life to protect her.  Places she called home included Newport, RI, Brunswick ME, Virginia Beach, VA, and Charleston, SC, out of the Navy, Albany, OR, Port Angeles, WA, Wadsworth OH, and finally Pasco, WA.  All the places filled us with memories and love of her family of three children and the wonderful events offered at each location.  From the tornados in Ohio, to the long winter in Maine, to the son covered in fire ants in South Carolina, all added to the wonders of her life.  She enjoyed the places we lived, traveled to and saw; from the butterfly house on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls to the wilds of Alaska and the Yukon and Lake Kathleen.  Hettie loved the adventures and not having been stuck forever in MacKay, ID.  Hettie always thought that her greatest achievement was her three children and tried her best to prepare them for life’s future challenges.  Through all of this, Hettie was fighting MS that was slowly taking her away one small bite at a time.  For me, she gave me many great gifts.  She taught me courage that I will never be able to match as the MS slowly devoured her.  She showed me how not to despair when life turned so very hard and most of all how to love.  She kept her faith in God through all the best of time and all the many down turns and knew in the end she would be released to go to a better place to prepare one last home.  We had over forty years together and it wasn’t close to being enough. Thank you Hettie for all that you have given us.

You’re Loving Husband, Brian

  • Dear Brian,
I am sorry to hear of your loss. Your warm and loving tribute so eloquently conveys how much you love Hettie. I wish I had been a better neighbor to both Hettie and you, and I deeply regret not fulfilling my promise to visit her. Arnold and I send our condolences to you and your children. May God comfort you as you think of how Hettie is enjoying Heaven, free of the earthly limits of the human body.
