Little Rachel Gould

October 4, 1939 - January 10, 2016

Rachel Gould went on to glory January 10, 2016. Born October 4, 1939 in Charleston, South Carolina, she was forever the picture of a distinguished, southern lady.

Having married Louis Poplin at an early age, her journey in life led her from the Deep South, across the country, eventually settling in Washington State. With the sudden passing of Louis in 1978, she remarried soon after and remained a resident of Richland, Washington until her death in 2016.

Rachel’s life was always extremely active. She earned a Master’s Degree in teaching from Eastern Washington University, and taught school for ten years before leaving her career. Her passion was for people to know Christ, and she worked tirelessly within her church and community to see that happen. As an avid prayer warrior, Rachel knew battles were fought on her knees and she prayed for each of her family members and friends, daily. She loved teaching Sunday school; working with GA’s, leading a yearly class in Vacation Bible School, attending Bible studies, prayer groups, and singing in her church choir.

Her favorite activities were shopping, keeping in touch with her children, going to movies, spending time with her dear husband, and eating out. Among her most cherished things was her well-worn bible, the color pink, and anything chocolate.

She will be greatly missed by her husband, Willard Gould of Richland, Washington; sons: Woody (Linda) Poplin of Wadmalaw Island, South Carolina, Hank (Brenda) Poplin of Columbia, South Carolina, Travis (Jeri) Poplin of Port Orchard, Washington, Clay (Heather) Poplin of Gallatin, Missouri, and Gene (Jaime) Gould of West Richland, Washington; her daughters: Lisa (Rob) Riddle of Nine Mile Falls, Washington, Brenda Gould of Richland, Washington and Rachel (Cory) Christie of Spokane, Washington; her sister, Paula (Bruce) Henley of Yuba City, California; her brother, Sam (Marcia) Rollings of Morehead City, North Carolina; her 24 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held in her honor on Friday, January 22, 2016 at 2:00pm at Richland Baptist Church in Richland.  Memorial gifts may be given to Richland Baptist Church.

  • Rachel and Willie are our next-door neighbors. They are kind and friendly and the kind of neighbors everyone loves to have. We have often seen Rachel with her grand children out in their yard. They were always smiling and having fun. She was a dear, sweet woman who will be missed by all who knew her. Our prayers and thoughts are with her family.
