Michael Craig Humphreys

Michael (Mike) Humphreys, 58, was born February 27, 1958, in Vancouver, WA, to Larry and Mavis Humphreys. He passed away surrounded by loved ones on September 30, 2016, in Richland after a short but valiant battle with cancer. Mike lived in Richland and Kennewick nearly his entire life. He held a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, as well as a Master’s degree in Nuclear Engineering. He led a successful 35-year career in the nuclear industry, beginning at Energy Northwest, then as an entrepreneurial software developer, and most recently as an independent consultant for MSA. He was well respected by his peers, rose to leadership positions wherever he went, and was highly sought after for his expertise. His pursuit of excellence was driven by his strong personal integrity, character and commitment to the truth. 

Mike had a lifelong passion for windsurfing on the Columbia. He had a wide variety of hobbies, such as water and snow skiing, mountain biking, and camping. He was an avid reader, known for his interest in abstract science and philosophy. He was a devoted Christian, small-group leader, and member of Bethel Church.

Mike is survived by his wife of 28 years, Kathryn, his daughter Laura, and son Scott; as well as his parents, his twin brother Rick Humphreys and wife Nancy, and siblings Denise Winters, Mark Humphreys and wife Francine, and John Humphreys and wife Chelsea, and their families. Mike also maintained many longtime friendships that were important to him. Although his passing has left a deep hole in our lives, our hearts are comforted knowing that he is no longer in pain, and that he is at peace with his Lord.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 Saturday, October 8, 2016, at Richland Baptist Church, 1632 George Washington Way in Richland.
