Harry Emtman
Harry Emtman passed away at home in Richland on July 26, 2017. He was 79. He was born in Spokane on April 4, 1938. Harry was the third child of Arthur and Martha (Paulet) Emtman. He grew up on the family farm near Plummer, ID and graduated from West Valley High School in Spokane. Harry attended WSU and the Perry Institute of Yakima. He worked as an instrument specialist for Battelle NW and retired after 42 years.
In 1964 Harry met Sandra Roloff. They married the following year and had one child, Jodi. Harry and Sandra enjoyed traveling both in and out of the country. They especially liked going to Maine in the fall to see the turning of the leaves. Harry's hobbies included playing bridge, gardening, doing home repair projects and bike riding. In 1988 he completed a 500+ mile bike ride from Melbourne to Sydney, Australia.
Harry is survived by daughter Jodi Emtman (Doug) of Walla Walla, 2 nieces and 3 nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ray Emtman, sister Hazel Emtman and wife Sandra.
Went to West Valley and graduated with Harry. Evans was my maiden name. So sorry to hear of Harry’s passing. My condolences to the family. Sincerely, Darlene
What a sad thing to know such a great guy is no longer with us. Harry and I were great friends in HS. Shortly after graduating Harry called me to see if I wanted to work for his brother Ray that summer on their Plummer farm. I agreed and worked for him for about 2 weeks when his father-in-law in Elmira called needing a summer HS helper. He was in his late 70’s and farmed over 2000 acres so the need was deemed more pressing than Ray’s and off to Elmira I went. Had a great summer but never had another contact with Harry.

With college, 21 years in the Army and retiring in Georgia it was not easy to make reunions but I still have great memories of Harry.

1956 now seems far far away. Harry and I knew of each other in high school, but got to know each other personally at the 55th and All Class . There are some pictures and I believer some video of him at
wvhs56.org under videos and reunions. Sorry I did not fully complete the full class reunion., I need to do that someday soon
After reading Harry’s obituary, I found that we both graduated from J.M. Perry Institute after going through the same course. I’n sorry that I didn’t know this sooner as I’m sure that we could have had some good remembrances. It also sounds like he and Sandra had a good and fun marriage.
Harry was one of the bright lights among those I met when I first came to work for Battelle. I got much pleasure from his stories & advice about orchards and life in the inland Northwest, as well as his help with electronic problems. I can only wish I had spent more time with him.
You were great to work with. Rest In Peace. I enjoyed our last visit at the Wednesday get together.
my telephone pal of six years will be greatly missed. Harry became a dear friend and our conversations via phone were a bright spot in my day. He was a kind, thoughtful, man and always a gentleman. We had like interests and especially our political preferences. I don’t have to mention what the prefere was as he was not shy about his Democratic bent. Wish he was still with us.
