Lucille Martha (Farnsworth) Knutson

Lucille passed away on August 12, 2017 at Brookdale Senior Living in Richland. She was born on February 13, 1922 in Devils Lake, ND to Gerald and Alma Farmsworth. Lucille was baptized in Bethlehem Lutheran church in Doyon, ND. The family moved to Coon Valley, WI where she was confirmed in Upper Coon Valley Lutheran Church in 1936. She graduated from High School in Fillmore, NY in 1940. Lucille married Palmer Knutson on October 11, 1940 in Baker, MT and made their home in Bowman, ND where their son, Paul was born in 1941. Palmer followed construction for the war effort in the ammunition department in SD which later took him to the Air Force Base in Mt. Home, ID and then to the Hanford Project in Richland, WA. Their daughter, Roxanne was born in Pasco, due to no hospital in Richland. 

Lucille worked at Stanfield Floral for years. She was a postal clerk for ITT/FSS in the Federal Building. She was a volunteer at Kadlec Hospital and was a church banner maker. Lucille belonged to the Peacemaker, Richland Lutheran Church, Tri-Cities Quilters and the Horizon Quilters in Grandview, WA.


Lucille and Palmer were members of the Richland Lutheran Church for over 60 years. They enjoyed traveling in their RV, fishing at Curlew Lake, and vacationing at Priest Lake in ID. They were also charter members of the Three Rivers Model “T” Club and the Spokane Model “T” Club.

Lucille is survived by her sister, Kathryn Cox; grandchildren, Erika Breen, Kelly Baker; great-grandchildren, Margot, Jordyn, Jinée, Jaxxon and Christopher. She is also survived by her God-Children, Karin Nichols, Sandi Sheeley and Rueben Moles. Lucille had a very special relationship with her nieces and nephews, Kim, Jeanne, Suzanne, Todd, Traci, Sandra, Scott and Rita.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Palmer; son, Paul; daughter, Roxanne Short; brother, Ray Michael Farmsworth; sister, Geraldine Spir; sister, Joyce Moran; granddaughter, Kori Knutson and granddaughter, Holly Ryan.

The family invites you to Lucille’s Graveside Service at Sunset Gardens (915 Bypass Highway in Richland), on Friday, August 18, 2017 at 11:00am. A reception will take place at Events at Sunset following the Graveside Service.

In lieu of flowers, Lucille would like donations be sent the White Bluffs Quilting Museum, 294 Torbett Street, Richland, WA 99354/509-943-2552.
