Lurlene Skinner Lenkersdorfer, 82

Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother returned home to her Heavenly Father surrounded by family after a very short battle with cancer. 

Lurlene was born on November 24, 1934 in Pocatello, Idaho to Brigham Heber Skinner and Della Mae Rasmussen Skinner.  She graduated from Pocatello High School in 1952.  She worked during her high school years in the St. Anthony Hospital as an aide and later as a switchboard phone operator. 

Lurlene married her eternal sweetheart, Howard Douglas Lenkersdorfer on June 5, 1954 and moved to Richland, Washington in 1956.

The next part of Lurlene’s life was her most cherished – that of raising their five children.  She was always involved in her children’s school and extracurricular activities.  Our home was always open to anyone so it was always willed with neighborhood friends.    

Lurlene was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints her entire life.  She was a wonderful example of Christ-like love and service in all aspects of her life.  In her most recent years, she loved working diligently as librarian over several church-building libraries.  She served for many years at the Columbia River and Seattle Temples. 

Lurlene is survived by her children, Duane (Melodie), Janet Turner (Mike), Karen Howard (Brett), Kevin (Jan), and Kurt (Katrina), her two sisters, Murial Choules and Christine Van Tol, and her brother, Dellas Skinner (Marlene). She is also survived by eighteen grandchildren: Daisha, Stacey, Kyle, Chad, Janae, Kristen, Jenees, Mitchell, Scott, Ryan, Jocelyn, Reed, Gage, Regan, Jonathan, Jerome, Karissa, and Kylee.  The great-grandchildren were also her pride and joy:  Nolan, Hannah, Gabrielle, Kaleb, Kiera, Tyce, Kaze, Dallin, Saren, Jordan, Lilly, Milo, Hazel, Brett, Isla, Garrison, Xander, Riley, Audrey, and Cooper.  Special love and thanks to Lurlene’s cherished neighbors, Earl and Myrna Palmer for their special love and care these 23 years since Doug’s passing.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 14, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Thayer Chapel.  There will be a 10:00 a.m. visiting time with the family for those interested. Grave dedication will follow the funeral in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
