Gladys McClain

Gladys Gertrude McClain, known to her family as GG, from Richland, Washington, was born April 12, 1919 in Wapakoneta, Ohio to Oscar Riley and Bessie Mae (Hunamon) Vorhees.  Her warm heart finally wore out, and she passed gently on August 15 at home.  Her Dad was the fire chief in Wapakoneta.  She had 9 brothers and two sisters:  Harry Leroy, Earl Burdett, Clarence, Theodore Roosevelt, Wilbur Lloyd, Ferdinand Francis, Oscar Melville, Clara Alice Marggarite (Sprague), Emma Claire (Fittro), Ralph Eugene, and Vic Donahey .  Gladys was married 80 years ago on June 9 to Bernard John McClain, from Lima, Ohio.   They have four children, Bernard John Jr (deceased), Dennis Lynn (Marilyn) from Redwood Valley, CA, Fred Eugene from Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Linda Kay (Jim) Bauer from Kennewick, WA.  They have six grandchildren:  Tamera Kay Kish, Tina Marie Pollard, Renay Elizabeth McClain, Matthew Kent McClain, Shari Lynn McClain, and Elizabeth Claire Cronin.  Their six great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren will miss their GG.   Gladys was a stay-at-home Mom until Linda entered high school.  She then went to work as Human Resource Director at Seyfert Potato Chip Company in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and greatly enjoyed her job.  She was a talented seamstress and very handy and crafty.  Gladys loved her family and friends and was beloved by all of them.  She was kind and ornery.   Her last 8 years at Bonaventure Retirement Apartments were a joy to her, and she leaves behind many good friends.  Gladys is preceded in death by her husband, parents, all her siblings, and son Bernard John Jr.  A service will be held at Bonaventure Retirement Apartments on August 31, 2018 at 2:00pm and in Wapakoneta, Ohio in late October.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Chaplaincy Health Care in Kennewick, WA.
