Robert Jackson

Robert Jackson, Age 91

Bob Jackson was a good man whose wife, children, and grandchildren will miss him deeply.  He started in Nevada and ended in Washington, taking his wife Donna through all 50 states on their 63 year journey together. He was kind, generous, polite, and intelligent, with a wonderful sense of humor and a servant’s heart. He was a Husband, Dad, GrandDad, Christian, Boy Scout, square dancer, sawdust maker, and always an Engineer (Nuclear and otherwise).

He worked tirelessly at West Side Church. He was clerk of session, chairman of staff committee, chaired the planting of a new church, helped hire several pastors, tried to keep the church bus in running condition, supported the pre-school, and so much more. Bob and his family welcomed many West Side Church interns and trainees into their home for a summer or longer. His generosity, welcoming spirit, and loving heart will be missed and remembered by all.

His positive influence on his children and their memories of him live on. He and his daughter, Mindi, bought a used water ski boat and took water safety classes, which they shared with the family and many others. One Friday evening, he hiked with his son Joe’s, Boy Scout troop to Lily Lake. The mosquitoes were overwhelming, so they hiked right back out. They all received mosquito badges! One Saturday, Bob and his son Paul decided to “go fishing”. They spent the day exploring the Snake River, eating lunch, throwing rocks in the river, and talking. They did not have fishing licenses or fishing gear, nor did they want them.  These and many more similar activities are fondly remembered by all three children.

In his last decade, Bob suffered from dementia, but his gentle, kind and loving personality never wavered. While he couldn’t physically do a lot anymore, he would go through the house and organize things in the pantry, cupboards, and even the office. Bob is now in Heaven, organizing and putting things in good order, and he will welcome you with open arms and gentle heart into his new home.

There will be a memorial service at West Side Church for Bob at 11AM on Saturday 8/18/2018. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Trainee Committee at West Side Church, 615 Wright Ave, Richland WA 99352.
