Alfreda “Freda” Haney, 95, of Richland, died peacefully in her sleep on September 10, 2018 at Richland Rehabilitation Center, in Richland, WA.
Freda was born in Graysville, Indiana on November 7, 1922, the daughter of Loyal and Ella Taylor. She graduated from Sullivan High School (1940) in Sullivan, Indiana.
Freda relocated to Richland, WA in 1943, initially working on the Hanford Engineering Works Project. She later worked as a cosmetician/clerk at Thrifty Drug Stores in the Richland, WA area for over 38 years.
Freda married William R Haney on January 12, 1946 in Richland, WA and was widowed in 1989 after 43 years of marriage. Although they did not have any children of their own, Freda and Bill opened their home to multiple foster teens in need.
Freda was a dedicated daughter to her parents and used her annual vacations traveling with her sister Eva back to Indiana to visit family members. She also enjoyed fishing and camping on weekends during her working years, casino gambling in retirement as part of the “Rambling Rovers “ group outings and later with friend George Wolfe, and daily visits to Kadlec Hospital for breakfast/lunch with her group of regulars.
Freda is survived by sisters Eva Oswalt of Richland, WA, and Peggy Boyd of Wichita Falls, TX, nephews James Parvis (Patsy), Kennewick, WA, Kenny, Bobby and Johnny Boyd, Wichita Falls, TX, niece Barbara Donnell, Richland, WA, great nephews Benjamin Parvis (Sarah), Tukwila, WA, Mark Donnell, Bend, OR, great niece Stephanie Fisher (David), Pasco, WA great/great nephew Dylan Donnell, Philomath, OR, and great/great nieces Simone/Sophia Fisher, Pasco, WA.
She was preceded in death by both parents, Loyal and Ella; husband William, brothers John and Charles, sister, Lenora and great nephew Mike Donnell.
Private family graveside internment service per Freda’s wishes, will take place on September 22, 2018 at Sunset Gardens, Richland, WA. Celebration of Freda’s life with lunch for family and friends will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday 22, 2018 at Westside Church (North Building), 615 Wright Ave, Richland, WA.
