12/15/1955 — 10/14/2018
From Richland, WA | Born in Omaha, NE
Mark Sampson, Sr.
Mark Coad Sampson, Sr., 62, of Richland passed away on Sunday, October 14. Mark was born on December 15, 1955 in Omaha, NE where he grew up. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1978 and completed his MBA at the university of Minnesota in 1979, the same year he married his high school sweetheart, Anne Morrow. Mark spent ten years working for the Union Pacific Railroad before he and Anne relocated their family to Richland, WA where he spent the rest of his career with Lamb Weston leading their logistics operations.
Mark
and Anne were blessed with five beautiful children. Mark, Cathy, and Jill were
born in Omaha, followed by twins John and Laura born in Richland. Mark loved
nothing more than spending time with his loving and large family, including his
children, his brothers (Herbert, Steve and Rick) and sisters (Nancy Sampson and
Lorry Edwards), and Anne’s parents, two brothers and five sisters. Some of their
best times were spent with family and friends around the dining table, where
conversation and Trivial Pursuit competitions often extended into the early
morning hours. He and Anne also enjoyed beautiful summer days boating and
evenings enjoying the sunsets at their home in Hayden Lake, ID.
Mark was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in September 2017, and was blessed with a wonderful year visiting loved ones across the country. He is survived by his wife Anne, son Mark Coad, Jr. (wife Jessica, children Blake and Mark Coad III), daughter Catherine (fiancé Andrew Brooks), daughter Jillian (husband Michael Decker), daughter Laura, and son John.
A public viewing will be held at Einan’s Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 17th from 5-7 pm followed by a Rosary beginning at 7 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church in Richland on Thursday, October 18th at 11 am. Flowers may be sent to Einans or donations made to Catholic Charities.
What a blessing Mark was in my life growing up together in Omaha. He was a friend that was supportive, witty, focused and most importantly real! What you saw is what you got. I will dearly miss him and what he delivered as a influence to so many! My sincere condolences to your great family of genuine people that had the blessing of sharing your life with such a wonderful man.

Anne and children. I am so sorry for your loss. I have many great memories about Mark, he helped me through some very tough times during my Union Pacific years. He was always my friend and I will always remember him that way. God Bless you all.
