Maureen Swaney

Maureen Maellyn (McKeel) Swaney, 77 of Bend, Oregon, passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2018. She was born to the late Lynn and Mary McKeel of Gresham, Oregon, on December 16, 1940.

Maureen attended Gresham High School (Class of 1959) and was an active member of the Oregon State Junior Rodeo Association serving as the Molalla Buckaroo Rodeo Princess in 1956.  She attended Portland State University, before beginning her career as a flight attendant with Western Airlines.  She was never happier than when she was flying with her long-time friends; Peggy, Alice and Del; and many other wonderful flight attendants and pilots.  Maureen discontinued her time flying after the birth of her sons Stephen and Patrick. She then served as the city recorder/clerk for the cities of Gresham, Oregon, Federal Way, Washington and Redmond, Oregon. Maureen served as the President of the Oregon Association of Municipal Recorders.

After retirement, Maureen started Winery Compliance Northwest serving many wineries in the Pacific Northwest with their winery shipping compliance requirements.  She loved wine and made many friends throughout the industry. Maureen also volunteered her time to the Westerlies and the Delta Pilots Association, as well as the Central Oregon Kidney Foundation and Morning Star Foundation.  Maureen was also an avid animal lover and was a dedicated supporter of the Central Oregon Equine Rescue organization.

Maureen is survived by her two sons Stephen (Michelle) and Patrick (Lori), sister Dixie McKeel (Dennis), brother Michael McKeel (Diane) and four grandsons; Alex, Braden, Conner and Dawson Swaney. She was preceded in death by her parents Lynn and Mary McKeel and sister Colleen Simmons.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Bonaventure Tri-Cities for their compassion and support during Maureen’s time with their community.  A celebration of life will be held at a date to be determined in 2019. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to your favorite animal related charity or shelter.
