Irene Johnson

Johnson, Irene Alice

On Thursday, December 27, 2018, Irene Johnson, wife, mother, and sister, passed away suddenly at the age of 82 years. Irene will be forever remembered by her daughter, Kristi Nelson, son-in-law, Ethan Nelson, and grandsons Grant and Mason Nelson and by her brothers and sisters Emanuel Hintz, Lucille Raymond, Bernice Brinson, Ray Hintz and Susie Luther and her brother-in-law, Leif Johnson.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Lee Johnson, her sister, Mae McClain, and brother Elmer Hintz. Irene will also be forever remembered by her numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and dear friends.

Irene was born in Elgin, North Dakota, and grew up on the family farm in Mabton, Washington.  She was the oldest daughter and was like a mother to many of her brothers and sisters.  She was a natural organizer and planner.  She volunteered for the Richland Police Department for over 12 years and taught a citizenship class at the West Side Church in Richland.  She always took great pride in helping people become US Citizens and would often attend their citizenship ceremonies.  She was a dedicated card player, bowler, and an active member of the Kosmos Over 50 Singles Group.  Irene loved to entertain and was very generous with her time.  And most of all she was a devoted mother and grandmother, stocking her house with her grandkids’ favorite treats, having running cribbage games with them for quarters, and attending all their sporting events. She will have a place in our hearts forever.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, January 5, at 3:00 p.m., at Einans Event Center, 915 Bypass Highway, Richland, Washington.
