Janice McMullin

Janice McMullin died peacefully on Friday, October 15, 2021.   Janice was born in Aberdeen, Washington on July 10, 1942.  She spent her youth in Portland, Oregon before marrying Bruce Smith and moving to Richland in 1960.  Janice and her husband Bruce had two children before Bruce passed away in 1968.  Jan then married Keith McMullin which brought three more children to her life. Jan spent nearly 40 years working for various Hanford contractors, first in personnel, then as a secretary before finally retiring in 2003 while working as a librarian.  She was married for 49 years to Keith McMullin before he preceded her in death in 2018.

Janice is survived by older brother Donald Minor (Orem, UT), twin sister Judy Burgess (Portland, OR) and younger twin brothers Stanley Minor (Tigard, OR) and Stuart Minor (Redmond, OR).  She leaves behind five children;  Steve McMullin (Graham, WA), Carol Rankens (Traverse City, MI), Ken McMullin (Richland, WA), Bob Smith (Minneapolis, MN) and Shelleen Lomas (Pleasanton, CA).  She also leaves behind ten grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Jan loved to travel and spend time with her family.  She was a marvelous listener who enjoyed long talks, peanut M&M’s and Peanut Buster Parfaits.  She was a wonderful mother to her five children who loved her immensely and appreciated her quiet life of service and sacrifice to each of them, their own children and always to her husband Keith.  Janice was quick to smile, had beautiful blue eyes and a work ethic that was hard to match.  She loved to bake cherry oatmeal cookies and each Christmas season a variety of Norwegian breads and cookies were found both in her house and the homes of her neighbors.  We know she is enjoying a joyful reunion with her beloved husband Keith.

Funeral services are Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 10 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Ridgeline Chapel at 10376 Ridgeline Drive in Kennewick.  She will be interred at Skyline Memorial Gardens in Portland, Oregon on Tuesday, October 26, 2021.

  • Jan was a wonderful friend and visiting teaching partner for the five years we were together. I appreciated her friendship and companionship in our visits. I missed her smiling face when I moved away from Richland. She was a very special and compassionate person. I know she was received by friends and family on the other side. God bless you, Jan.

  • I loved every visit I shared with aunt Jan from her great conversation to the sweet winks she would give me from across the room. I recall so many, my favorite memory was when she and Uncle Keith took to my first Broadway show, “The King and I”.
That and when she shared how good scrambled eggs were with syrup on top. I love and miss her🙏❤️ Karyn
