Hazel Latal

Hazel Jean Latal, age 86, passed away on February 22, 2022, in Richland, WA. Hazel was born in Mississippi on March 16, 1935, to Walter and Flossie Morgan. The Morgan family moved to Richland, WA in 1948, when Hazel was 14 years old.

Hazel attended Columbia High School and graduated in 1952. She then moved to Spokane to attend Sacred Heart School of Nursing. It was during that time she met her husband Harold “Harry” Latal who was in the Air Force at Fairchild. They were married in November of 1954. Harry went to work for Boeing and they lived in Ephrata, WA. They moved back to Richland in 1962 when Harry went to work for General Electric and later retired as a Farmers Insurance Agent. Hazel worked for the Richland Clinic, J.A. Jones then retired from running a Day Care in her home for 15 years.

Hazel had many interests in life, traveling, reading, but above all else, she loved spending quality time with her numerous friends & family. Hazel was certainly a people person. She attended Life Church 7 in Richland for many years, where she participated in many Bible studies, card making classes, and served throughout. She also loved to spend time with “The Bagel Ladies” that met each Tuesday afternoon.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Flossie Morgan, her husband Harold “Harry” Latal, her sister Faustine Langston, and her brother-in-law Judd Langston.

Hazel is survived by her daughter Lorrie and her husband Phil George, her son Keith and his wife Lorna Latal; her brother Walter and his wife Alice Morgan, and her sister Linda Jochim; her grandchildren: Natalie and her husband Jake Griffiths, Naomi George, Travis Wilson, and Heather Wilson; her great-grandchildren: Ellie, Gracie, and Skyler Griffiths, Cheyenne, and Samantha Wilson. She also has loving nieces, nephews and extended family as well.

Her family would especially like to thank her many friends and neighbors for their kindness and generosity.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Hazel’s honor to Chaplaincy Hospice, 1480 Fowler St., Richland, WA 99352.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Einan’s at Sunset-Event Center, 915 Bypass Hwy, Richland, WA 99352. Special thanks to Gene Gibson who will be officiating the Service.

  • Hazel was a close friend of mine in high school and over all the years. I am so sorry to hear of her passing. My deepest condolences to her family. I moved to the Seattle area in 1984 and didn’t see her often. When her son lived over here she would visit and we got together then. After my parents passed I didn’t go to Tri-Cities often but when I did we always got together and also with our other dear friend Doris Barrott (RIP). The last time I saw Hazel was at our last high school reunion which I believe was in 2017. She will be deeply missed by all her friends and family.
