Alicia Jimenez Mercado
Alicia J. Mercado, age 88 of Kennewick, passed away on February 16, 2023 in Richland, Washington. Alicia was born on June 16th, 1934 in Irapuato Guanajuato, Mexico to Concepcion Jimenez and Trinidad Acosta. She had 4 brothers- Felipe I, Gregorio, Lazaro and Felipe II and 5 sisters- Christina, Ines, Selerina, Lourdes and Soledad.
In her adolescent years, Alicia helped around the farm and went to school before moving to Monterrey, Mexico to be trained as a nurse assistant. That is where she met her husband Clemente R. Mercado.
Eventually, Alicia and her husband moved to Eagle Pass, Texas where she had her first baby girl Angela. The family migrated to Nampa, Idaho where second daughter Alicia was born, then moved to Blackfoot, Idaho where her third daughter Elda was born. Job opportunities moved them to Moses Lake, Washington where the last 4 daughters, Leticia, Emma, Esmeralda, Yolanda were born. Alicia and Clemente worked long hours to support the family and raised the daughters with strong work ethics, commitment to education and most importantly faith in God.
Alicia and Clemente’s proudest moments were when their daughters got married and had their children. Also when they witnessed their daughters graduate from high school and university. Alicia and Clemente’s proudest civic accomplishment was when they became United States Citizens shortly after they arrived to the United States.
Alicia is survived by her daughters, Alicia Mercado, Elda Mercado (Dwight Boechlor), Leticia M. Rodriguez, Emma Mercado, Esmeralda Mercado, and Yolanda M. LeMieux (Lee LeMieux), and grandchildren Celia Cox, Gilbert Rodriguez III, Elliot Cox, Izella Rodriguez, Andrea Cross, Emery LeMieux and Alicia LeMieux III.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Clemente R. Mercado, daughter Angela Cox and son in law George Cox.
A Vigil for Alicia will take place on Sunday, February 26, 2023 from 10:00 am to 2:00pm at Einan’s Funeral Home. A Graveside service will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens starting at 2:00pm.
