Ruth Alma Jones
Ruth Alma Jones, 93, of Richland, WA, passed away on February 15, 2023. Ruth was born September 3, 1929 in American Falls, ID to John Zimmerman and Martha Nachtigal Zimmerman. She graduated from Aberdeen (ID) High School in 1947. After high school, she attended Southwest College in Waxahachie, TX for one year and then attended Links School of Business in Pocatello, ID where she met her husband-to-be, Norman E Jones. They were married in Aberdeen, ID on September 23, 1949 and lived and farmed in Roy, ID, then moved to Rockland, ID and In 1955, they purchased a farm at Aberdeen, ID where they raised potatoes, hay, grains, corn silage and established a Grade A dairy and provided an excellent family home environment for their five children.
Ruth was active in her church’s programs, serving in various officer positions, including Sunday School teacher, and youth group leader for girls. She enjoyed sewing and handwork, always had a big vegetable garden, and did a lot of home canning of fruits and vegetables. She often worked as a farmhand – driving trucks and tractors, milking cows, feeding calves and chickens, etc. She continued quilting, embroidering and playing hymns on the piano until the last two weeks of her life.
She is survived by five children Bob (Linda), Tim (Dena), Judy (Dave) Belles, Stan (Debbie) and Dan (Dana); ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Norman after 67 years of marriage. To honor Ruth, her family challenges you to be a helpful neighbor to someone in need. A graveside memorial service is planned for a future date.
I had the honor and privilege of spending time with this wonderful mother, friend, seamstress and Loved of God. Ruth played the piano every Sunday for us as well as Holidays. Oh how you will be missed by your friends. I know you are in the arms of God- making sure everyone is taken care of
I met Ruth at Guardian Angel Vineyard House, where my Mom Opal resided until her passing last year. I enjoyed visiting with Ruth and I saw her just a few weeks ago when I stopped by. She was so kind and helped my Mom when she could. We all enjoyed it so much when Ruth would sit down at the piano and play for everyone. May she Rest In Peace. You certainly had a wonderful Mom.
