Brian McShane’s Obituary
Brian David McShane was a resident of Richland, Washington for many years. He passed from this life to the next Sunday, March 19, 2023 at Swedish Hospital in Seattle, Washington surrounded by his wife and most of his children. Brian was born August 7, 1973 in Portland, Oregon to David and Kristine McShane. From his early years he battled cancer but was a strong, stubborn and determined fighter. Over the course of his life he lived in Oregon, Utah, Colorado, New York, Texas and Washington. He was the second of nine children. Because of their many moves, he was closely knit with his siblings. Brian excelled at sales, drama, customer care and public speaking. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1992-1994 in the Ukraine Kiev Mission. His entire life he had wanted to be a missionary and help others come to Christ. He sincerely loved the Ukrainian people and with great determination obtained a lifelong mastery of the Russian language.
After Brian’s mission he met and married the love of his life Desirée McShane in 1995. Brian and Desirée were able to bring four beautiful children into the world whom he loved to spoil with love, attention and gifts.
Brian received a BA in Communications with an emphasis on Public Relations from the University of Utah. He worked in a variety of jobs, but his passion was Family History. His interest in Genealogy work was sparked when he was an undergrad at Rick’s College in Rexburg, ID (now known as BYU-Idaho). Ever since then he was assertive in assisting others find their ancestors and binding “the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers.” (Malachi 4:6) Brian spent many hours serving in several temples throughout his life, making sealing ordinances available to those who have gone on before.
Brian is survived by his wife Desirée McShane, children Riley McShane, Natalie McShane, Emily and Justice Gant, and Isaac McShane, parents David and Kristine McShane, all his siblings, their spouses, many nephews, nieces, and many uncles and aunts. He is predeceased by his grandparents Stephen and Marion McShane, and Donald and Evelyn Nielson.
We know we will be united again through the temple covenants we have made with our Savior, Jesus Christ and through His marvelous Atonement and glorious resurrection.

Brian is an absolute treasure of a human being. I will remember him best for his knowledge and wisdom on spiritual matters and his generosity in sharing them with the gospel doctrine class I taught. His presence in this life will be missed.
My ❤ feels your loss. I know her loved his family greatly & was willing to assist others however he could. He was proud of his family & how they served others. I’m grateful to have known Brian and Desiree.
I will miss Brian and the joy he gives to his family. His was a light that could not be hid. We miss you Brian!!
I have always enjoyed talking to Brian about any subject. He has always been cordial, sincere, and honest. Also, his mission service to Ukraine is most commendable having to learn a Cyrillic language and adapt to a culture in a distant land. I have every confidence that Desiree, their children, and immediate family will well be able to carry on having the legacy of a great husband, father, son, brother, and friend of many.
Miss you very much, Brother.
Love, Bob and Ann
Brian was a good man, and this was obvious to anyone who knew him, he will be missed dearly yet I know he is looking down at us all, with that killer smile.
