Margaret “Peggy” Lewis
Margaret Ann “Peggy” Lewis passed away in Kirkland, Washington on June 24, 2023 at Peace of Mind Adult Family Home.
Peggy was born in Longview, Washington to Jack and Ella Donahue. She was the fifth of eight siblings and enjoyed all the adventures of living with a large family. She met lifelong friends and was actively involved in school. After high school, she graduated from Lower Columbia Junior College and subsequently earned a Sociology degree from Washington State College.
Peggy worked as a district director for the Portland Girl Scouts. She eventually moved to the Bay Area and worked as a millinery buyer. After living in California for a number of years, she moved back to Washington and landed in Tacoma just in time to play hostess to friends and family who wanted to attend the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair.
During a visit to Richland to visit her sister, Peggy met Don Lewis and they were married on November 23, 1963. Peggy and Don were dedicated to their faith and to raising their children. They enjoyed golfing, boating, snow skiing, and watching sports. These interests were the basis for many family vacations. Peggy volunteered at Christ the King Catholic Church and School for over twenty years.
Peggy was an exceptional wife and mother. She is survived by her daughter Meg of Kirkland; son and daughter-in-law Tom and Suzanne of Indianapolis; grandsons Zach and Sam of Indianapolis; sister Irita Nicholas of Fort Worth, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Don, her parents, and siblings Patrick, Frank, John, and Bernard Donahue, Trudy Cartmell Felder, and Ella Quinlan, nephews Pat, Jr. and John Donahue, niece Kathleen Donahue, and great-nephews JT Donahue and Sam Cartmell.
On Friday, July 14th, a recitation of the Rosary will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church at 10:00am followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00am.
Memorials may be made to the Msgr. William J. Sweeney Endowment Fund, Christ the King Catholic School, 1122 Long Avenue, Richland, WA 99354 or to the American Cancer Society (donate.cancer.org).
What a beautiful life! I had the honor of knowing Peggy, along with her daughter Meg, at Peace of Mind Adult Family Home while my own mother lived there. May Meg and Tom continue to see blessings in their life for having such a wonderful mother and example of God’s goodness and love.
That’s a great picture of Peg – just as I remember her. I just wanted you to know I’m thinking of you both, Meg and Tom, during this time of loss.
