Rick Damerval
Ricky Allen Damerval was born to Phyllis and Jerri Damerval in Oskaloosa, IA, March 14, 1964. Rick, alongside older brother Doug, grew up working on the McCulley family Dairy farm. As a youngster, Rick enjoyed helping care for his aunt and uncle Coulter’s racehorses. Shortly after graduating from Reedsport High School in Oregon in 1982, Rick enrolled in the United States Air Force, serving proudly as a Missile Control Communications System Specialist at Vandenberg AFB, CA. After completing his War Time Service as a Senior Airman Rick made his home in Wenatchee, WA where he welcomed sons Jeremy and Zach Damerval. While serving as a Senior Telecommunication Technician Rick met the love of his life, Wendi Johnson. They married in 1996, with Rick wholeheartedly embracing his role as a stepfather to Wendi’s daughters, Jeanne and Ashley. The blended family then settled in Richland, WA where they welcomed son Shaefer in 1997. Over the years Rick shared his considerable skill set with his team at BNSF Railway, and later at Amazon Warehouse. Rick’s quick wit and upbeat nature endeared him to everyone he met, earning him lifelong friends along the way.
Over the course of their 27-year marriage, Rick and Wendi traveled often and lived in many states across the country. Together they shared a love of home renovation, gardening, cooking, and spending time with their children and grandchild. Rick was a bedrock for his family, providing care and support at the drop of a hat. He was endlessly generous with his time and skills, whether teaching his children to drive, completing endless “honey-do” lists for close and extended family, or simply being there with a fresh, hot cup of coffee day or night. He provided unconditional love and support to his children and never hesitated to let them know he was proud of them. He passed on his love of sports, specifically Mariners baseball and the Seahawks football, to his sons. He will be missed by everyone whose life he touched with his good humor and kind spirit.
Rick was preceded in death by his mother Phyllis Gresham.
Rick is survived by his parents Jerri and Judy Damerval, brother Doug Damerval (wife Luana Damerval), his beloved wife Wendi Damerval, in-laws Rick and Judy Johnson, sons Jeremy, Zach and Shaefer Damerval, stepdaughters Jeanne Dunham-Torrey (wife Jennelyn Torrey), Ashley Dunham (partner Alex Hayes), and grandson Charlie Blakeman.
