John Fox

On October 1, 1927, a baby boy was born to Jay and Edith Fox in Portland, Oregon. He was named John Charles. When he was 4 years old his father died.

Over the next many years John lived with relatives, none of whom had children so he was always an only child.

He loved school and was a good student, despite changing schools frequently. John earned a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Oregon State University. He joined Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity at OSU. Because he had moved around a lot as a kid he said the fraternity house experience was a much better life for him.

John was in the ROTC in college and served in the US Army Reserves.

He came to the Tri-Cities in 1951 to work at Hanford. He met Kathryn Chaussee in Richland and they married in 1959 and made Richland their home.

They raised three children here. Life was full with Johns work at Hanford; family ski trips, summer water skiing on the Columbia River, swim meets and soccer games.

When their children were in the Richland schools John served two terms on the local school board. Upon retiring from the national lab here he got involved in the city council, city parks and the B-Reactor project.

A few special interests for John were sport car like his favorite Mercedes 190 SL., modern architecture, especially the work of Frank Lloyd Wright, travel to foreign countries, photography and playing duplicate bridge.

He leaves his beloved wife Kathryn, his son Jay and wife Celina, his daughter Ann and her husband Eric Olinder, grandson Cameron Fox, Santana, granddaughter Alexandra and husband Eric Alfano and 2 great grandsons Cody and Colton.

John was preceded in death by son, Ryan Fox.
