Marvin Barger
Marvin Spencer Barger was born September 14, 1926 in Stephens, Calloway, Missouri. Died September 23 2023 at Hospice Kennewick WA.
Preceded in death by his wife J. LaVelle Priebe Barger, five brothers, and one sister.
He was the fourth in a family of six brothers and two sisters, son of Perry Garth Shufflebarger and Cordelia Turner Shufflebarger.
He graduated from Ashland High School in Ashland, Oregon Served in WWII in the South Pacific theater. Attended Southern Oregon College of Education, in Ashland, Oregon, Pacific College in Newberg, Oregon, (Now George Fox University), Columbia Basin College in Pasco, Washington. Worked at Hanford for forty years as a Nuclear Chemical Process Operator, Construction Engineering technician, Non-Destructive Testing technician, and senior Quality Control Engineer. One of four Hanford employees to pass the National Board of Quality Engineering.
National President of “American Society of Engineering Technicians” where he achieved legislation to insure transfer of college credits and a challenge system for work credit. This was accomplished working with Dr. William G. Torpey on the Presidents Manpower and Education Commission, directly with President John Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson, and Richard Nixon. He was awarded “Man of the Year” honors in Fort Worth, Texas 1968.
Surviving are: son William and Janice Barger of Richland, WA., daughter Diana Barger of Richland, WA., son David and Lynn Barger of Pasco, WA., grand-daughter Gina Bartels West Richland, WA., grand-son Nicholas and Krystyna Barger of Monrovia, CA., great grand-daughters Mersadie Hardesty and great great grand son Tobius Hardesty, Makenna Bartels, Keira Bartels and great great grand daughter Aurora Bartels, great grand-son Mason Hardesty sister Gladys Bass of Rogue River, OR. Many Nephews and Nieces.
