Elizabeth Hammervold
On January 9 th, Betty Ann Hammervold, age 77 passed away at her home in Richland, WA. Betty was born in Southern California where she spent her youth living near the ocean. She enjoyed being with friends and family, and time at the beach. As a young adult, she was a candy striper and later completed her Accounting degree at El Camino College. Her first job in Accounting was with Continental Airlines where she enjoyed travel benefits and took Don to Hawaii. Betty and Don were married in 1967 even though Don was still finishing his degree. Betty always wanted a family so she didn’t mind helping support Don’s college goals to finish his degree and catch the perfect wave. During the early years of marriage she and Don lived in California where their first two children were born. After a few years, Betty and Don decided to move from California to Richland, WA for their next big adventure. Her last child was born there and this is where they set down their roots for 45 years. During her life here in the Tri-Cities, she was very involved in her kids activities; Scouts, Softball, Marching Band and Figure Skating to name a few. She also found time for charities and a career as a Weight Watchers leader. She loved to share recipes to help her members enjoy their meals and meet their goals. Betty’s favorite place to vacation was the Oregon coast; Cannon and Newport Beach. She also loved to hike at Mt Rainer and enjoyed all the beautiful wild flowers. During her retirement she liked to go kayaking with Don and their dog , watch her grandkids grow like weeds, and nurture a large home garden. Home grown cucumbers and tomatoes were her favorite. Her 77 years were full of many adventures and so much love. Betty is survived by her husband Don, 3 children; Donna, Eric and Amy, and 5 grandchildren; Rebecca, Jon, Joelle, Emmett and Grace. She was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Dorothy (Albin) Lee, and two brothers John and Richard Lee. Funeral service will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1111 Stevens Drive, Richland WA at 12 noon January 20th 2024. Betty Ann spent much of her time serving her community. To follow in her example please donate to your local Mission or food bank in her memory.
