Jean Dewitt Morey
Mom passed away at Tri-City Chaplaincy House in Kennewick at the age of 90 with her daughter and grand daughter by her side. She was born in Cranesville, West Virginia September 14, 1933. Mom was the baby of the Dewitt clan and on February 11, 1924, her mother and daddy, all her brothers and sister called down from heaven and told her they needed their family in heaven to be complete.

Mom met dad in Morgantown, West Virginia in 1949 where they were married and had my brother George Gregory in 1950. In 1956, they followed the rest of Mom’s family to Richland, WA. When they first arrived, they stayed in Touchet, WA with Grama and Joe Russell and just a few weeks later (me) daughter Robin Ann was born in Walla Walla, WA. Shortly after they all moved to Richland.

In 1966, mom followed after her step dad Joe and went to barber college in Pasco, WA where she learned and mastered barbering and soon took over Joe’s shop in West Richland. It was a 1949 Spokane city bus that had been converted to a barber shop. It became “Jean’s Bus Barber Shop”. Mom loved her job, made many a friend and was very successful. She retired after 37 years, only due to failing eyesight.

She had a campsite at “Naches Wonderland” along the river in Naches, WA for over 30 years, how we all loved going there and working, eating, playing, and partying on that site, great memories for all.

Later mom bought a place in Yuma, Arizona and her and Greg, along with friends Bob and Jody LeMaster, spent many winters there away from the cold.

Mom, Meme/Meem as her first grand daughter Angel, named her in 1972, “really stuck”. All four grandkids, and their friends, eight great grandkids even the first two great-great grandkids all called here Meme or Meem. They all loved her so.

God Bless. You can now go home. You will surely be missed. We Love You!

Mom is survived by her children, Greg Morey, daughter Robin Schildknecht (Tom), her grand daughters; Angel LaMear (Jerome), Brandy Covington (Tony), Cortnee Covington (Scott Jones), grandson George Morey. Great-grandchildren; Casey Wells (Ben), Alex LaMear, Adriann LaMear (Nolan), Keaton Covington, Kailey Covington, Cooper Covington, Declan and Remy Jones. Great-great-grandchildren, Colette and William Wells and Lilith LaMear.

Mom was preceded in death by her parents Clarence H. Dewitt, Merle Russell; brothers, Clarence Dewitt Jr., Bob Dewitt, James Dewitt, Don Dewitt, and sister Marian Hartley.

A family graveside service was held at Einan’s Sunset Memorial Gardens.

  • I am Jeri, an old bartender from Denny’s in Richland. I so loved your mom and Greg when they came in to eat. So many laughs. I actually remember when they bought that home in Mexico.
She was a lovely lady. Sorry for your loss.

  • As a young girl, I used to go to Jean’s Bus Barber Shop with my dad. I always liked to watch barbers work. Later, when my mother became housebound, Jean was kind enough to come to our home to tend to Mom’s beautiful hair. I will forever remember Jean’s kindness to my parents.

To Jean’s entire family, please accept my most sincere condolences.
