Mary Lou Devoir

Mary Lou Devoir a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away on February 9, 2024, at the age of 93, in Kennewick, WA at Trios Hospital.

Mary Lou Pettie was born on April 7, 1930, in Selah, WA to David A. Pettie and Mildred C. (Crawford) Pettie.

She graduated from Selah High School in 1949.

On October 6, 1951, she married her high school sweet heart Roger O. Devoir at Saint Joseph’s church in Yakima, WA. After Roger finished serving his time in the Navy, they returned to Selah and eventually made their home in Richland where Mary Lou raised 8 children.

She was a devout catholic and a member of Christ the King church. For many years she served as the treasure of the Young Ladies Institute.

Mom and Dad enjoyed many of the Knights of Columbus functions: dancing, playing cards and cooking together. After dad retired, they turn their passion to genealogy and spent years traveling to many parts of the country gathering information about their family tree. She loved to read books and do word games and puzzles. You could always find mom and Dad watching their children and grandchildren participating in sporting activities locally and across the country.

Mom was a very devoted loving wife, supportive mother and wonderful grandmother throughout her life. Mom’s main goal in life was to support her children, by lending a helping hand, instilling good values, and know they were unconditionally loved. Mom loved to cook and was great at it.

Our family spent many years traveling to Selah to see relatives and visiting Mt. Rainer to pick huckleberries. Family time meant everything to mom especially during the holidays.

In her final days, Pam led us in praying the rosary and we know mom loved this.

Mary Lou was proceeded in death by her parents, three brothers (David, Jack, & Jim) Pettie, her husband Roger of 69 years of marriage.

She is survived by her 8 children: Pam (Dave) Piovesan Mesa, WA, Nikki (Tom) Hensyel Pasco, WA, Marc (Carla) DeVoir Pasco, WA, Terri (John) Larson Kennewick, WA, Rodney Devoir Pasco, WA, Michelle (Steve) Beden Kennewick, WA, Shari (Eric) Riley North Bend, WA, Karen (Richard) Ombrellaro Bothell, WA. 23 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren with 1 more coming in April.

Mom will be remembered by her quick wit that made us laugh, and her caring personality. Enteral rest grant unto them. O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

A Rosary and viewing will be at Einan’s from 1-5 Wednesday, February 21, and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at Christ the King in Richland, with a reception at Einan’s.

  • Condolences to your family. Christ the King and YLI linked so many of our parents. Your mom, grandma raised and supported quite the family, plus friends of yours, plus others in your neighborhood “village”. What an INVOLVED life she had, and what a family who got to enjoy her the longest and deepest.
