Dorothy Jane (Jaskulski) Welch of Richland, WA, passed away on March 21st, 2024 at the age of 95. She was born on November the 10th, 1928, in Amsterdam, New York to Joseph and Ida (Anuskevicius) Jaskulski. Dorothy attended the Little Schoolhouse, a one room school in Fort Johnson, New York, St. Joseph’s School and Wilbur H. Lynch High School.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Joseph H. Welch, and siblings Joseph Jaskulski, Mary Kosinski-Kaupelis and Grandson Ryan Welch. She is survived by four children, David J. Welch (husband to Becky) of Sedro-Woolley, WA, Robert Welch (husband to Alma) of Kennewick, WA, Patricia Farris (wife to Paul) of Ellensburg, WA, and Joseph Welch of Spokane, WA.

Dorothy had eleven grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Throughout her life, Dorothy worked in a variety of roles. However, the most important role that she valued above all was that of being a wife and mother. Dorothy and Joseph Welch married on October 7th, 1951, and were married for 63 years.

Dorothy and Joseph were members of Christ the King Catholic Church since first settling in Richland, WA in 1959. She was involved in various volunteer work centering around the lives and activities of her children. When her husband retired from Hanford in 1989, Dorothy and Joe traveled around the state as members of the Kennewick Caravanners. Dorothy and Joe were a wonderful team. They were always happy to be home and helping their children and grandchildren. Mom was a very special person and if you had a problem, she would show her kindness with a meal or heartfelt support. She was a wonderful cook, creating delicious meals in the efficiency kitchen of her B house.
Dorothy would visit daily with her sister Mary until Mary’s passing in 2021 and would also visit with her dear friend Marge Smith.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the health care professionals who cared for Mom over the past several years and especially Dr. Ayee, Tri Cities Home Health, Kadlec Hospital and Regency Canyon Lakes.

  • Dear David, Robert, Patty and Joseph,

    As a child growing up on Abert Street, I also have many nice memories of your mom. She was a beautiful, generous and warm person. I last saw her when she visited my mother in the hospital 16 years ago, and we had such a nice conversation. My prayers are with you all.

    I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of your mother, she was such a sweet and caring woman. I have fond memories growing up on Abert Street with the Welch family, I will always remember your mother standing on the porch with a big smile waving to us as we walked to school. My hope is you find comfort in all the memories you shared.
    My sincere condolences.

  • David used to phone Mom several times a week and he used to love to callMom from his car.. When David and I were going to lunch he called home and told Mom that he was out with “Gary Lobdell” whom she had met once. I said “ Hi Mom;
    “ and asked if I could call her “Mom” since my Mom had died many years earlier and I didn’t have a Mom around ; she lovingly accepted me as sort of a ‘substitute’ Mom!

    From then on, I would just say “ Hi Mom” whenever David would call her and I was with him. A wonderful memory of a wonderful person!
