Gervadine Hughes
Gervadine Hughes, loving wife and mother, joined her Heaven family on April 16, 2024. While at her home, surrounded by family and loved ones she peacefully drifted from this earth to her eternal home. Gervadine was born in Fairfield, New Mexico, November 26, 1929. While attending ENMC she met her soulmate, Marion Hughes, to whom she was married for almost 68 years. Upon moving to Richland, Gerva taught PE at Richland High School, retiring after 25 years of positively impacting the lives of students and coworkers. Gerva enjoyed time with family and friends and was always the life of the party. Her loving and amusing personality made everyone immediately feel like a friend. As members of the Clover Island Yacht Club and International Order of Blue Gavel she and Marion were often attending functions that gave Gerva the opportunity to do what she enjoyed, dress up and socialize. Gerva was also a member of Phi Delta Kappa and Washington State Retired Teachers. Her 94 years of life were dedicated to her family, friends, God, and finding the best in every situation and opportunity, a trait that’s been imparted into everyone she’s ever met.
Gervadine is survived by her five children, Dwight, Dwayne (Jody), Doug (Debbie), Edwin and Dana Poppe (Ken), along with 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
A celebration of Gervas life will be held Friday, June 7th at Riverview United Methodist Church, 4012 W. Court St., Pasco, WA at 1:00PM. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to any children’s charity in her honor.
She was the best PE teacher and was always so kind to me. My deepest condolences to her family.
I graduated from “Col-High” in 1972. Mrs Hughes was my P.E. teacher and track coach. She was a great lady and friend. Peace, comfort, heart felt thoughts and feelings to the family in her passing.
