Neal Sternberg passed away peacefully on May 20, 2024, at 98 years of age surrounded by family. Neal lived a long, healthy, happy life full of dedication to his family, service to his country, success in his career and good times with friends.
He was funny, kind, always had a smile, a positive attitude, a nickname for everyone, was well respected and treated people with friendliness and generosity.
Neal David Sternberg was born in Philadelphia on April 2, 1926. He was raised in Sioux Falls , South Dakota and upon graduating from High School at 17, he joined the U.S. Navy. During World War II, he was stationed in the Pacific Theater on the USS Natrona as a Radioman. He made many friends during that time and stayed connected with his shipmates throughout his lifetime.
After his military service, he earned a Bachelors Degree from the University of New Mexico. His first job after college was as a Buyer at the May Company Department Store. In 1957, he began working for North American Rockwell in California as a Program Business Representative and in 1978 he transferred with Rockwell to the Hanford Site where he worked until he retired in 1989.
It was at Rockwell in California that he met and married the love of his life, Carol Stevenson on April 20, 1963. Neal and Carol’s marriage of 61 years has been filled with love, lots of laughs, and great respect and affection for one another. They enjoyed golfing, traveling, snow skiing, camping, their pet dogs and cats, fishing, going to the casino, attending Tri City Americans Hockey games, and attending the Navy ship reunions. Many of these activities were shared with their daughter and her husband.
Neal was proceeded in death by his parents A. David and Irma. He is survived by his wife Carol, who has been by his side throughout all of his life’s joys and challenges. Also left to treasure his life and legacy are his daughter Robin and son- n- law Stan Holloman.

So SAD and sorry to see this Carol, and family! Loved working with Neal and our wonderful Boat trips to San Juan Islands. We had such fun, and great memories! Hi to Chic too, as took her photos recently, but didn’t get to chat. Hoped she would be at Sue Pritchetts Memorial. Our prayers are with your family at this time. Love to connect with you again sometime. Love, hugs, and prayers,

Uncle Neal was the type of person who always left a positive impression on people. I always enjoyed his company. Justin and Nick still talk about our visit out there on the train and the fun they had flying kites with him. He will certainly be missed by our family.
