Victor R. Weil
Victor R. Weil, 89, passed away on May 7, 2024. Born December 13, 1934, in Potlatch, Idaho, to Raymond and Oma Hardesty Weil, Vic grew up in Spokane and graduated from Otis Orchards High School in 1952. He served in the Army as a Morse Intercept Operator in Korea before attending Gonzaga University on the GI Bill, graduating in 1961 with a degree in mechanical engineering.
Vic worked for several Hanford contractors before retiring in 1994. He was active in volunteer work, including with the United Way Campaign and Gonzaga University’s School of Engineering Advisory Council. He was also a dedicated volunteer of 26 years at the Richland food bank, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3307, and involved in Christ the King Church.
Vic never met a stranger, and his infectious smile could light up a room. His bear hugs and firm handshakes were legendary, and if you were on the receiving end of one, you were the luckiest person on earth!
An avid cyclist, Vic participated often in the MS150 bike ride and later supported the Tri-Cities MS Walk in honor of his wife, Clara, who battles Multiple Sclerosis. He enjoyed golfing almost daily and made countless friends on the course.
He is survived by his wife, Clara of Richland, daughters, Shannon Lamarche (Jeff) of College Grove, TN, and Maureen Schafer (Brady) of Ellicott City, MD, sister, Donna Pringle of Spokane, WA, grandchildren Nichole Schermerhorn, Kristen Tompkins, and Austin Hively, Geordan and Tori Austin, Brandon and Brianna Lamarche, Emmy, Leo, and Hunter Schafer. His Father, Mother, brothers Wayne and Floyd, son Michael, daughter, Kelly Austin, and granddaughter, Stephanie Weil, preceded him in death.
A Rosary will be at held on May 24, 2024, at 10am and a funeral Mass at 10:30am Christ the King Church followed by a reception in the gathering space. Graveside committal will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens at 2:00 pm.
Contributions in Vic’s honor can be made to the “Michael Weil Memorial Scholarship fund” awarded to a graduating Richland High school music program senior in memory of Vic’s late son, Michael (mail to Glazier Yee, LLP; 707 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 2025, Los Angeles, CA 90017, Attn: Guy P. Glazier) or to Christ the King Catholic Church (1111 Stevens Dr., Richland, WA 99354).
I didn’t know…I just found out!! I’m so saddened to hear of Vics passing. It seems like I just talked to him. Vic was the Director for Transportation and Maintenance. I worked for him for many years. He was, and will remain, the absolute best boss I’ve ever worked for. All he wanted was a fair days work, and in return, you not only received a fair days pay…but you also received his full support in resolving workplace and personal issues. He treated his employees fairly, and with dignity and respect. After we both retired and whenever he did his MS ride or walk, he knew where to find me for a guaranteed contribution, and maybe a beer or two. Vic Weil will always be a shining star which represents honesty, integrity and what is “best in men”. I will certainly miss his smile, his laugh, his uplifting attitude, and that crushing handshake.
Vic epitomized a life well-lived: loving kindness, joyfulness and service to others. Both he and Clara have inspired many of us by their devotion to each other, to family and to their Catholic faith. May God bless Vic and the Weil family.
Truly one of the sweetest men I ever had the pleasure of knowing and a gentleman to boot. My sincere condolences to Clara, Maureen and the rest of Vic’s family. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Clara & Family:

Clara and family,
It is with a sad heart that we learned of Vic’s passing.
Sabra and I remember the first time we met you and Vic after we moved to the Tri-Cities.
There is so much good to be recalled about Vic, but all of that has been said in the obituary.
Sabra always told me on Saturday’s that she saw you and Vic at Mass. His smile and handshake were the best.
With love,
Richard and Sabra Ciccone
