Dennis Ray Rhoten, born on September 27, 1956, in Richland, WA, passed away on June 26, 2024, in his hometown. He leaves behind a legacy as a dedicated family man, a respected construction superintendent, and an active member of his community.
Dennis was deeply committed to his career in construction, where he played a pivotal role in building hotels, churches, assisted living, and memory care communities across the nation. His work not only showcased his craftsmanship but also his dedication to creating spaces that enriched communities. He had recently retired, leaving behind a trail of significant structures that stand as a testament to his skill and hard work.
A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Dennis was active in his faith community. His religious commitment was also expressed through a two-year mission in Missouri in his early adulthood, reflecting his dedication to service.
Beyond his family and career, Dennis was passionate about fishing, a hobby he cherished from his childhood days fishing with his father. He was also an enthusiastic fan of the Seattle Seahawks and the Mariners, following their games with zeal.
Dennis was a devoted husband to Lou Ann Rhoten and a loving father to Rachel (Vaughan) Schow and Austin (Asheli) Rhoten. His joy was multiplied as a grandfather to seven grandchildren: London, Bexton, Brielle, Luca, Jackson, Raelynn, and Maisyn. His family was the center of his world, and he cherished every moment spent with them, particularly as a beloved Papa.
He also leaves behind a large family of siblings who will miss him dearly: Lonna Nelson, Kerry (Gaylene) Rhoten, Kent (Connie) Rhoten, Darrell (Kim) Rhoten, Randall (Kathryn) Rhoten, Lynette (John) Rowley, Ryan (Holly) Rhoten, and Lueana (Alan) Bowers. Dennis was preceded in death by his loving parents.
Dennis’s life was marked by his strong character, dedication to his loved ones, and contributions to his community. He will be remembered for his generous spirit, his enduring faith, and his loving heart. He will be profoundly missed by those who knew and loved him. His legacy endures in the structures he built, the faith he practiced, and the loving family he nurtured.
To The entire Rhoten family, we are so sorry to hear of the passing of your husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Lonnie and Joyce raised great men and women and we love and appreciate you all. May the Lord bless you as you mourn his loss. Les and Sherrie Brown
Lou Ann,
Prayers of strength, peace and comfort for you and all Dennis’ family and friends.
When we first moved to Richland in 1974 I served as YM President. Dennis was one of my kids. He has always been a friend and kind and courteous to me. I express my love for the large and extended Rhoten family and offer my condolences to you .
Dennis was always so good to our family. He would come anytime we needed help with handy work, and was cheerful and positive to be around! He will be missed! Sending hugs to LouAnn.
Dennis was a great man and always will be through the eternities. I will miss him until we meet again. His loving wife was an example of the life he longed to live and will be with her for the eternities as well. We will meet again under greater and more profound circumstances I’m sure.
So sorry for you loss. He was a good cousin and will be misses.
The world has lost the presence of a wonderful man with great passion for life’s simple pleasures and a wonderful smile. Our heart felt condolences to the entire Rhoten family. We pray that the emptiness that comes with such times will quickly be replaced with fond memories and increased love for those he cherished..
For all the Rhotens, I’m so sorry for your loss. I played a lot of softball with and against Dennis. He hit with power and was always a key part of the team he played for. One constant was his smile. Whether he hit a home run or struck out, you could always count on a smile from Dennis. Later as his home teacher, along with my son, he and his family were always welcoming and, again, he always had that smile and cheerful attitude. The world needs more smiles.
Dennis was a generous person and fun to spend time with. We will miss him but know we will see him again.

I was so sorry to hear about Deenis’ passing. I grew up with Rhotens around, from Lonna being my first dance teacher, to high school with Randy (and Kathryn). I hope that you will all find the comfort and peace that the gospel brings.
All our sympathies … Paula (Mulvey) and Alan Noakes, Kennewick, WA.
Dennis created the beautiful and protective home my Mom now lives in and he created the safe space my Dad needed by offering love, brotherhood, and unwavering support. I relied on Dennis and Lou Ann’s friendship, laughter, and understanding so often. Thank you for sharing your wonderful husband and father with all of us. Praying for your peace now and always.
We miss you, Dennis! Much love to Lou Ann and family.

Lou Ann, Rachel & Austin we are so sorry for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you.
Love you,
Dennis was my first home-teaching partner after we moved to Richland in 1993. He was always happy to visit and help others. We made a lot of enjoyable visits together. When not visiting others, we would visit with each other. He had a good sense of humor and exuded kindness. He will be missed.

To the Rhoten Family, We wish our condolences to you all on the loss of Dennis. I do not remember any of you except your Parents. I lived on the same street and delivered the Columbia Basin News to them back in the late 50s and early 60s. And now one of your nephews is one of our Dentist in Kennewick. This world is smaller then any of us ever know. May God Bless you all.

My deepest sympathy to Lou Ann. and Dennis’s family! I know he will be missed! With love from the Lee family.
Lou Ann, Rachel and Austin, my heart is with all of you and your family. Seven years ago Dennis and I met through Koelsch Communities in Modesto. He was my guide on the journey of building El Rio. I never could have been the leader without his being my mentor and constant supporter. He was invaluable to our team. He brightened all our days and the families that toured and encountered Dennis, were so grateful for the time he shared on all the amazing aspects that the building had in place for their loved one. He had that infectious smile and could turn around everyone’s mood.
He loved his family to the moon and often shared with me about how excited he was to being seeing you all again on various trips and the times you spent together. He touched so many lives and I’m forever grateful that mine was one of them.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Thank you for making it possible to be with you at the service by live streaming. I wouldn’t miss it. Hugs to you all, especially you Lou.
Brother Rhoten was such a kind man. He and his wife are deeply loved and missed by our congregation here in Modesto. My family’s thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Especially to his wife, one of the sweetest women I’ve ever met.
Dennis was our awesome neighbor. He always had a laugh and a smile. He was so kind and always took that moment to talk with us about anything. He made us laugh . He brought so much sunshine to us . We miss him every day. He had a gift we can’t explain. Hugs and prayers Patty and duard
