Derek Kyle Johnson

Derek Kyle Johnson was born in Fresno, California on August 24, 1973 to Gerald and Patricia Johnson. He passed away on June 10, 2024 in Pasco, Washington.

Derek spent the first ten years of his life in Fresno California. The family moved to Kennewick, Washington in 1984. He attended Desert Hills Junior High School and then Kamiakin High School graduating in 1992. Derek attended Columbia Basin College before joining the family business Tri-Cities Battery.

Derek was blessed with the birth of his son Bradley, in 1998. They did everything together and were the best of friends. He met Alysia Gunderson in 2001 and they were married on April 26, 2003. Derek was then blessed with the birth of his daughter Sierra, in 2008. They were best buds, and she was wrapped around his finger. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. In 2021 his granddaughter Avery was born. She was the light of his life, and he was the best Papa to her. In March of 2024 his grandson Dawson was born, and he was excited to be the best Papa to him too. He would do anything for them. He worked hard for his family and played hard with them too.

He was a barbecue master and perfected any and all kinds of food. He loved to cook for his family and friends. Summer was his favorite season. Derek loved being outside listening to music and being in the water. Gizmo was always by his side inside or out, he loved to take him on walks and was always sneaking him extra treats. Gizmo never turned down a nap with him. He was an avid Seahawk fan and didn’t miss watching a game. Throughout his life, Derek enjoyed hanging out with friends no matter what they were doing.  He loved to explore different places in Washington and travel to new cities.

Derek was preceded in death by his grandparents Dale Johnson, Marie Johnson, Jim McCollum, Kathy McCollum and Aunt Cheri McCollum. He is survived by his parents Gerald and Patricia; wife Alysia, son Bradley (Sarah), grandchildren Avery and Dawson, daughter Sierra, brother Brandon (Linda) nephew Ben, niece Blair, brother Adam, and niece Faith.

Following his wishes, he will be cremated, the family will have a private burial. There will be a Celebration of Life Monday, June 24, 2024, at Paper Street Brewery (241 Fanning Rd. Pasco) from 4pm – 8pm.

In lieu of flowers the family has established a college fund for daughter, Sierra Nicole Johnson.
