Celebration of Life
Duane E. Finch
Duane E. Finch, aged 90, passed away on June 16, 2024, in Richland, WA. Born on July 15, 1933, in Seattle, Duane lived a life marked by resilience, innovation, and a love for the outdoors.
Duane’s early life was shaped by a significant challenge when he was struck by a car, resulting in lymphedema in his left leg. Despite this, he preserved to earn the rank of Life Scout and completed his education at Lincoln High School in Seattle. Duane married Clara in 1956, welcoming two children, Dwight and Debbie. The marriage dissolved in 1975, and later, in the autumn of his life, he was blessed with a loving partnership with Janet Long, sharing 33 cherished years together.
Professionally, Duane began his career at Seattle Light before venturing out to start his own business, Duane’s Electric, which prospered under his leadership. His commitment to his community was evident through his service on the board of directors for the Island County Fair and as an electrician for the Tri-City Hydroplane races.
There was nothing Duane could not fix and he was skilled in woodworking. He crafted many items in his cabin-like workshop, from birdhouses to raised planter boxes. Duane also enjoyed cooking, especially breakfast, and was a proud member of the Elks. Together with his son, Dwight, he built a cabin in Tollgate, OR, which became a cherished family retreat.
Duane is survived by his spouse, Janet Long; children, Debbie (Mark) Libbing and Dwight (Kellie) Finch; grandchildren, Christina (Rory) O’Connor, Jayme (Jessica) Finch, Hannah, and Andrew; great-grandsons, Grayson and Kyler O’Connor; along with his stepchildren, Kathy Keel, Greg Long, and Jeff Long; and step-grandchildren, Steven and Justin Keele. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dwight and Gertrude Finch.
Duane’s legacy of resilience, creativity, and community involvement will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by all who knew him.
