Janine Patricia Pounds
Janine Patricia Pounds passed away peacefully on June 8, 2024, at her daughter’s home with family beside her. We look forward to the happy reunion we will have with her in Heaven one day.
She was born in Spokane, Washington, on June 6, 1941, to Herman and Mabel Owen. As a child, Janine enjoyed and competed in dance, gymnastics, and roller skating. She spent many happy summers with her family at Diamond Lake. She graduated from John R. Rogers High School in Spokane, Washington in 1959.
Janine went to elementary school with the future love of her life, Roger W. Pounds. While attending youth group at Hayes Park Methodist Church, Janine accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior. Janine and Roger started dating in high school and were married on August 23, 1962. They graduated from Eastern Washington State College, where Janine earned a BA in Elementary Education in 1964. Shortly after graduation, she and Roger moved to Pasco for their first teaching jobs. The plan was to work in Pasco for a few years and then get back to Spokane. Thirty plus years later, Janine retired from the Pasco School District. She taught kindergarten for most of those years. Roger and Janine were happily married for 43 years before Roger succumbed to cancer. She missed him greatly ever since then.
Janine was a devoted, loving wife, mother and grandma. She loved spending time with family and friends and was very supportive. She was also a good listener. Her favorite place was Diamond Lake, where she could sit on a swing on the beach and feed the ducks. She was thrilled by the beautiful sunsets there and enjoyed flowers and watching birds.
Janine also loved watching sports. She was especially a fan of her grandkids and went to as many of their events as she could. She also was a Mariners Baseball, Eastern Eagles, and Seattle Seahawks fan.
She and Roger were heavily involved in their church, enjoying singing in the choir and playing in the bell choir. They passed on their love of music and singing abilities to their children.
Janine was particularly known for her generosity. She had a great sense of humor, was sweet, and enjoyed rounds of puns around the dining room table. Her loving kindness will be sorely missed.
Janine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roger Pounds, her parents, Herman and Mabel, siblings Ralph (Dode), Kenneth (Cora Mae), and Raymond. She is survived by her daughter Jodi (Jon) McCall of West Richland, son Russell Pounds of Spokane, grandchildren Matthew, Chris, Caleb, Levi and Hannah (McCall) of Richland and West Richland, sister-in-law Carolyn Grant of Spokane, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Please join the family to Celebrate the Life of Janine Pounds on Saturday, June 29th, 2024 at the Hub in Bethel Church in Richland, WA at 11am.
Janine was an inspiration to me when I was a beginning teacher. She brought me back to the practical.
Mrs. Pounds will be greatly missed. She was always so kind to me. Mr. and Mrs. Pounds took me to church with Jodi all through high school and that played a huge part in my later coining to know Christ. Heaven has gained an amazing lady and I can’t wait to see her again.
